More than 8,800 candidates get extra points thanks to IELTS
Master Cu Xuan Tien, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department of the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said that more than 8,800 candidates were awarded a maximum of 1.5 points or converted into English points when registering for the school this year (3.7 times higher than last year).
All candidates achieved IELTS scores of 5.0 or higher, with the highest score being 5.5-7.0. In addition, there were about 50 candidates using other international English certificates.
These candidates will be awarded 0.5-1.5 points in all methods or converted to 8-10 points in English when registering for consideration using high school graduation exam results with a combination of subjects including this subject.
Sharing the reason for the sharp increase in the number of foreign language certificates submitted to the school compared to last year, Master Cu Xuan Tien said that there was a change in the way the school calculated points for this certificate. Specifically, this year the school calculated additional points or converted points for admission combined with high school graduation exam scores. While last year, the school only used them for admission combined with academic records or priority direct admission.
In addition, according to Master Tien, the decrease in high school graduation English exam scores has led to candidates using English certificates to convert into admission scores. After the Ministry of Education and Training announced the exam scores, the number of candidates supplementing their IELTS certificates increased by nearly 2,000.

What is the benchmark forecast?
Master Cu Xuan Tien also predicted that the admission scores of the University of Economics and Law will tend to decrease by 0.5-1.5 compared to last year. The reason is that the high school graduation exam scores in English and math have both decreased. Meanwhile, 5 out of 6 admission combinations of the school include both of these subjects.
The majors that candidates are most interested in include: international business, e-commerce, international economics, marketing, economic law, etc., the benchmark scores may be lower than the above level or remain the same.
On the contrary, new majors with lower competition levels, the benchmark scores are likely to decrease more deeply such as: civil law (English program); applied mathematics in economics, administration and finance (English program); financial technology (Co-op program); management information systems (Co-op program) ...
In 2025, the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) will recruit 2,700 students according to 3 methods: direct admission, priority admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and Ho Chi Minh City National University; considering high school graduation exam scores; considering Ho Chi Minh City National University's capacity assessment test scores. In which, the minimum score for admission based on high school graduation exam scores is 19 points, and the capacity assessment test score is 720 points.
For majors/specializations in the field of law, candidates applying for admission based on the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam must have a math score of 6.0 or higher. For admission based on the D01 combination (math-literature-English), the math and literature scores must be 6.0 or higher for each subject. With the method of considering the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's 2025 competency assessment exam, candidates must achieve a total score of 720 points or higher and have an average score of 6.0 points or higher for math in the 3 years of high school.
In 2024, candidates admitted to the University of Economics and Law with high school graduation exam scores must have an average score of 3 subjects of at least 8.13 points/subject. Specifically, the lowest admission score is 24.39 for the public management major. The highest admission score is 27.44 for the e-commerce major. Two other majors of the school with a score above 27 include: management information systems (Co-operative Education program) and digital marketing.
