Officers and soldiers of Hoang Truong Border Guard Station propagate to raise legal awareness for fishermen.

Early in the morning, at Lach Truong Control Station, taking advantage of the time when the vessels were anchored, officers and soldiers of Hoang Truong Border Guard Station (Hoang Hoa) visited, encouraged and propagated to raise awareness of the law for local fishermen. Thanks to that, recently, the vessels operating in the sea have complied with the provisions of the law, and no cases of fishing vessels in the area violating IUU fishing have been detected and handled. Head of Lach Truong Control Station, Pham Ngoc Duong, said: “In addition to the task of strictly maintaining the inspection and control of people and vessels entering and leaving the port in accordance with the correct processes, principles and procedures at the border control stations, we have stepped up propaganda work for fishermen when the vessels are anchored at the port or entering to do procedures. Currently, 100% of the vessels have installed VMS; 100% of the fishermen and vessel owners have signed a commitment not to violate IUU fishing”.

To achieve the above results, Hoang Truong Border Guard Station regularly coordinates with localities to promote propaganda on preventing and combating IUU fishing through conferences, village and residential area meetings, distributing leaflets and brochures, and broadcasting on the radio systems of communes. The propaganda sessions not only contribute to raising awareness among fishermen, but also arouse pride and awareness of preserving the sovereignty of the homeland's seas and islands.

Taking on the task of managing a coastal border section of more than 12km with 2 estuaries, over the years, officers and soldiers of Hoang Truong Border Guard Station have always stood side by side with fishermen from 5 coastal communes of Hoang Hoa district, including: Hoang Truong, Hoang Hai, Hoang Tien, Hoang Thanh and Hoang Phu, to go offshore and stick to the sea.

On a sunny and windy afternoon at Hai Tien beach, people rushed out to the sea, immersing themselves in the white-capped waves. Among the hundreds of people bathing on the beach, there were still soldiers in green uniforms who always had the mindset of "preventing" any unexpected events that might happen to those who like to test themselves against big waves and deep water. Thanks to his mindset of always being ready for any situation, Lieutenant Colonel Duong Dinh Hai, an officer of Hoang Truong Border Guard Station, saved a tourist from the jaws of death. Accordingly, at 4:00 p.m. on June 12, 2024, Mr. Phan Anh Dung in Hanoi was swimming in the sea when he suddenly had an accident. While patrolling with the functional forces to protect security and order in the Hai Tien beach area, discovering a person swimming in the sea with signs of drowning, Lieutenant Colonel Hai quickly approached the victim. At the same time, he called a jet ski to promptly bring the victim to shore for first aid. Admiring the brave actions of the border guards, who did not fear danger to serve the people, Mr. Dung wrote a letter expressing his deep gratitude to the officers and soldiers of Hoang Truong Border Post and Lieutenant Colonel Hai personally.

Recalling the past story, Lieutenant Colonel Hai considered it the responsibility of a soldier to do, to try his best. Therefore, he and his comrades only wished for calm weather and calm seas so that sailors could be safe and tourists could swim safely. Indeed, the peace of the ocean and the safety of fishermen are the daily, hourly, and mental wishes of the soldiers guarding the coastal line.

Officers and soldiers of Hoang Truong Border Guard Station patrol the sea border of Hoang Hoa district.

In addition to rescue work at sea, officers and soldiers of Hoang Truong Border Guard Station also tow damaged and distressed ships to shore and provide first aid to injured crew members. There are many other rescue activities that border guards have been and are doing to help fishermen feel secure going out to sea.

Around Hoang Truong Border Post, trees provide cool shade and birds chirp. Not far away is the heroic Hoang Truong Veterans Monument, towering between the sea and sky. In the past, the gunmen of the Lach Truong Fishing Enterprise's self-defense force and naval soldiers fought with the American invaders at sea. Today, the fishermen at Lach Truong estuary still uphold the tradition of bravery, resilience, diligence, and perseverance to overcome difficulties and stick to the sea. Fishing boats of Hoang Hoa and Hau Loc children from Lach Truong estuary continue to go offshore, catching fish and shrimp to build a prosperous and happy life.

Hoang Hoa sea area, the names of places, people, historical revolutionary relics left by our ancestors, are the pride and ideological foundation of the community. To arouse pride and spread love for the homeland and country, on important holidays and anniversaries of the homeland and country, officers and soldiers of Hoang Truong Border Guard Station coordinate with the youth unions of communes to organize traditional exchanges of "remembering the source of water when drinking". Preserving and promoting the value of "red addresses" toeducate future generations about the tradition of patriotism and national pride.

The waves are still murmuring, gentle and sometimes even fierce. But despite facing many difficulties, hardships and dangers at the “head of the waves and the wind”, the soldiers in green uniforms are always brave and resilient to overcome the “big waves”, becoming a “support”, a lighthouse for fishermen on their trips to the sea.
