Dien Bien: Expected to reduce more than 65% of commune-level administrative units

Dien Bien TV - According to the draft Project on rearranging commune-level administrative units, it is expected that after the merger, Dien Bien province will reduce from 129 communes, wards and towns to 45 commune-level administrative units; including 42 communes and 3 wards; a reduction of 65% equivalent to 84 commune-level administrative units.

The reorganization of commune-level administrative units aims to streamline the apparatus, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of grassroots government operations; at the same time, meet the requirements of socio -economic development and ensure national defense and security in the new situation.

The arrangement plan will be based on the following criteria: Natural conditions, transport infrastructure, population distribution and economic spatial development orientation. Thereby, it aims to maximize the potential of each region; create connections and mutual support between localities.

The project also sets out requirements for preserving cultural identity, ensuring national defense and security, and building strong defense zones, especially in key areas.

From April 18 to 24, localities will collect public opinions on plans to rearrange and reorganize commune-level administrative units in Dien Bien province./.
