Respond promptly when customers report increased electricity bills

One of the tasks that Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Corporation (EVNHCMC) pays special attention to is the work of responding to opinions of electricity customers. In the 2 months since receiving more customers in Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau (old) areas, the City Electricity Department has received a number of opinions from customers using electricity for domestic purposes reflecting on the issue of increased electricity bills.

In addition, although there is a lot of information posted on social networks about increased electricity bills, most of it is cut and deleted to hide information, or hide the poster's information, or the poster uses AI technology to create a false event of increased electricity bills, or inaccurate information but is shared by many people on groups and forums, so the electricity industry cannot determine the correct customer information to contact for answers.

In August, EVNHCMC identified 8 cases of customers using electricity for domestic purposes complaining about electricity bills on social networks. These cases were contacted, checked and their questions were answered. After receiving detailed answers and analysis of daily electricity consumption from electricity staff, the customers were satisfied and had no further complaints or questions.

For example, a customer in the area served by Binh Duong Electricity Company posted on social media wondering about the "identical" electricity bills for July and August. After contacting the customer, the industry staff analyzed the customer's electricity usage chart for 2 months and found that: The daily electricity consumption in July and August was different, but the total amount of electricity consumed in July and August was the same, so the electricity bill for the 2 months was the same. This coincidence was accidental and the customer understood after being thoroughly explained.

The total electricity consumption of customers in July and August is the same but the daily electricity consumption is different.

Or like a customer served by An Phu Dong Electricity Company also raised a question with the Customer Care Center: Why is the electricity bill in July more than 3.6 million VND but in June only 2.8 million VND while the demand and equipment using electricity have not changed. Through contact and investigation, it is known that this household does online business, regularly uses a large number of lights to film sales, has 2 air conditioners and a number of fans that are continuously used for many hours a day. The house is equipped with many electrical appliances with high power consumption such as: water pump, television, electric stove, refrigerator... In July, the customer consumed 1079kWh of electricity, 229kWh more than in June (June used 850kWh). In addition, some days in July were continuously hot, leading to electrical equipment, especially cooling equipment, consuming more electricity. In this case, the electricity staff fully explained and pointed out the reasons for the increase in electricity bills, as well as advised the customer on how to use the devices to save electricity. The customer was satisfied with the explanation of the An Phu Dong Electricity Company staff.

Mr. Bui Trung Kien - Deputy General Director of EVNHCMC said that the electricity output used for domestic purposes in the city in August 2025 alone reached 1.69 billion kWh, down 1.15% compared to July (1.71 billion kWh). The increase or decrease in the amount of electricity consumed by customers using electricity for domestic purposes in the month is normal in daily electricity use because it also depends on the weather, number of users, time of use, equipment used, user behavior, etc.

EVNHCMC representatives also advised people to be cautious and verify information carefully before posting or sharing on social networks to avoid posting inaccurate information, causing public panic, affecting local security and order. In addition, it also exposes personal information, creating conditions for bad guys to collect information to carry out fraudulent acts.

When having questions about increased electricity output or comments about electricity bills, customers should contact EVNHCMC directly through Call Center 1900545454, via email: [email protected] , via fanpage: Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Corporation, via EVNHCMC App to receive timely information.

The City Electricity Department commits to keep all customer information confidential and promptly contact and coordinate with customers to check, verify, compare, and explain to customers. The entire process of checking and reviewing information is public, transparent, and directly supervised by customers.

EVNHCMC leaders also added that the Vietnam Electricity industry in general and Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation in particular always comply with the regulations of the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the procedures of Vietnam Electricity Group in measuring electricity consumption index and electricity selling price. In particular, the meters all meet the technical requirements prescribed in Vietnam's measurement management (DLVN 237:2011), in accordance with international electrical technical standards IEC:62052-11, IEC:62053-21.

Before being installed for customers, all meters have been approved by competent authorities and each meter before being installed for customers is inspected according to the inspection process issued by the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality (ĐLVN 39:2012). The electricity industry only uses and installs meters with satisfactory inspection results to ensure accurate operation.

Install EVNHCMC App to track daily electricity consumption

Along with the deployment of the remote metering system, EVNHCMC has developed a customer care application (EVNHCMC App) on smart mobile devices. EVNHCMC App is a form of public and transparent information on customers' electricity usage, creating conditions for customers to proactively monitor and supervise their electricity usage, and at the same time monitor the quality of electricity industry services anytime, anywhere through the App.

Download the EVNHCMC App to monitor your daily electricity consumption.

By accessing the EVNHCMC App, all customers will be able to see the electricity consumption chart by day - month - year, thereby helping customers know the highest usage day, the lowest usage day to be able to adjust their electricity usage behavior. When accessing the "View detailed table" section, customers will clearly see the meter reading and the amount of electricity consumed by day.

Through the EVNHCMC application, customers will receive messages from the Electricity industry, such as: 1st and 2nd electricity bill notifications; debt reminder/power cut-off notifications; payment confirmation; power outage notifications and other information. In addition, the application also provides many other utilities, such as: Warnings of cases of abnormal increase/decrease in electricity usage, warnings of operating parameters on current, voltage, power factor... These warnings will be automatically sent to customers via the EVNHCMC App, email... From there, customers can proactively build a more flexible, efficient and economical electricity usage plan, contributing to environmental protection and reducing economic costs for families and society.

For customers using large amounts of electricity through dedicated transformer stations, EVNHCMC provides daily electricity usage charts, power charts, current charts, power factor charts, etc. with a frequency of 30 minutes/time so that customers can remotely monitor the power system in near real time. Providing this information is very important to exploit this data in production and business activities.

In addition, through the EVNHCMC application, electricity customers quickly receive notifications of unusual cases of the power system to coordinate with the electricity industry to check and handle promptly to minimize electrical incidents on the system, ensure stable, continuous and safe power supply, as well as improve the reliability of power supply.

“Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Corporation hopes that customers will install and use the EVNHCMC App to proactively monitor the daily electricity consumption of their families and businesses, thereby promptly adjusting their electricity usage behavior to limit high electricity bills and save costs for families and businesses,” Mr. Bui Trung Kien called.
