Amidst the ambulances speeding through the night, amidst the urgent consultations, there is a force that doesn't wield scalpels or sign medical orders, yet is present wherever patients need them: the nursing staff.
Night shifts in the Intensive Care Unit of the Provincial General Hospital are always bustling with activity. There, alongside the doctors' urgent diagnoses, is the nimble yet meticulous work of the nursing staff. They take turns checking ventilators, adjusting IV fluids, and meticulously recording every small number on the electronic display. No one speaks loudly; only the sound of footsteps and the steady hum of the machines can be heard – a sound so familiar that they can instinctively detect any abnormalities. In this atmosphere, every small gesture carries a profound meaning: preserving the lives of patients.

Amidst such shifts, the essential qualities of a nurse become readily apparent: compassion, meticulousness, and patience. In Ha Tinh , over 3,600 nurses are quietly acting as an "extended arm" for doctors in treating and caring for patients. They not only provide physical care but also serve as a source of emotional support, bridging the gap between medical expertise, technology, and human compassion.
The nursing staff has overcome countless difficulties, shortages, and hardships in the medical field. Together with the medical staff, they have written glorious chapters in the history of healing and saving lives. And perhaps the most significant and memorable event was the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. Many did not hesitate to leave their families for months at a time to support Binh Duong province and COVID-19 treatment facilities, contributing to the nationwide effort to combat the pandemic.
Nurse Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, Head of Nursing at Huong Khe Medical Center, shared: “The nursing profession forces us to get used to witnessing patients' life-or-death struggles, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, it became a haunting experience. There were so many battles and struggles to save lives under harsh conditions. Back then, we worked for hours in completely sealed protective suits. Sometimes, even taking off our masks to drink water was a luxury. It was hard and dangerous, but every time we heard a patient breathing normally again, everyone felt more motivated to dedicate themselves.”
Stories about the profession are often not grand, but they are powerful enough to keep people engaged and love their work even more. At the Outpatient Department (Provincial General Hospital), nurse Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh still vividly remembers a shift many years ago when a critically ill patient urgently needed blood. “Without being told, we all readily donated blood to save the patient. When he regained consciousness, smiled weakly, and thanked us, I understood that the most important thing is still the love and care we have for the patient.”

That action happened quietly, but for her, it was a memorable milestone. Amidst countless small tasks, sometimes repetitive and exhausting, it was moments like these that made them realize the value of their work. From there, new contributions emerged, keeping pace with the development trends of the times. Also from there, the movement to improve patient care spread strongly in medical facilities. Skills competitions, innovative initiatives, the 5S model, electronic medical records, and the application of technology in care... have helped the nursing staff mature significantly.
Notably, at the 2024 forum "Updating Advances in Wound Management and Care," the Ha Tinh Nursing Association won third prize nationwide with outstanding initiatives such as the application of cold plasma, HOCL gel, and negative pressure suction therapy in wound care. In 2025, the "Nursing Quality Improvement Solutions" competition attracted 22 participating units with more than 50 practical solutions, ranging from reducing infections to strengthening the connection between nurses and patients after discharge. Nurse Hoang Thi Ngan - Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery (Provincial General Hospital) said slowly: "Every small improvement is a big step forward. When patients smile, we know all our efforts have not been in vain."

The Ha Tinh Nurses Association is not only a place for professional activities but also a source of spiritual support. They learn how to improve techniques, share initiatives, and even lessons about patience, a virtue that this profession demands throughout one's life. In any department or medical facility, one encounters the image of dedicated and caring nurses. At many medical facilities, movements such as "Building the image of friendly, dedicated, and professional Ha Tinh nurses," "5S Day," and "Haircutting, shampooing, and hygiene for patients on weekends" have become a beautiful cultural aspect of the medical profession. They not only care for patients but also spread love and share with them.
Dr. Le Chanh Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, shared: “The nursing staff in Ha Tinh has made remarkable progress in both professional expertise and ethical conduct, contributing to improving the quality of medical examination and treatment. Nurses are the ones who spend the most time with patients; they witness both fear and recovery. And it is they who have made a huge contribution to building humanistic values for the medical profession.”
In hospitals, people come and go every day. Nurses diligently perform their familiar duties, but it is in this repetition that they keep life going, that keeps hope alive. And perhaps, that alone is enough to understand why those hearts never tire of loving-kindness.
