In recent times, many localities in the province have effectively implemented the movement to build “bright - green - clean - beautiful” residential areas, in which the highlight is the colorful mural roads. The mural images chosen by localities promote historical - cultural relics, messages of environmental protection, building cultural families, etc., thereby creating a new look for the countryside, spacious and full of vitality.

Coming to Quang Trung commune (Vu Ban), we felt many changes in the appearance of the new rural village. The mossy or mottled walls were replaced by vivid and meaningful paintings. With the idea of contributing to "beautifying" the countryside landscape, with the approval of the Party Committee and People's Committee of Quang Trung commune, members of the Council of the Ha Nam Ninh Music and Art School and former students of class K26 (2000-2005) of the University of Fine Arts volunteered to paint murals at schools, cultural post offices , cultural houses and the surrounding walls of some households. To prepare the conditions for painting, more than 30 artists surveyed the painting locations, then measured and completed hundreds of sketches for the People's Committee of Quang Trung commune to approve. Because the existing walls in Quang Trung commune were unevenly designed, the process of cleaning the walls and painting primer took a lot of time. The type of paint chosen to paint murals in Quang Trung commune is carefully selected, adheres firmly after drying, does not fade and is less discolored. Many paintings show the hard work of the artists such as: banyan tree, well, communal house yard, today's countryside, Pho Minh tower, village gate... On the more than 70m long wall of Quang Trung Secondary School, the artists created many works with easy-to-understand content, easy to reach students such as: join hands to pick up trash, the sea, the homeland islands, let's read books... Immediately after completing the murals, Quang Trung Secondary School organized extracurricular activities for students, experience viewing paintings, listen to analysis of the artistic value and content of each painting and then write a report. Through this activity, the school hopes to educate students to be fully aware and responsible for environmental issues, sovereignty over the sea and islands. Since the murals, the countryside landscape of Quang Trung commune has become more vivid. In particular, people's awareness of environmental protection has been raised, and graffiti and sloppy advertisements on walls no longer exist.

In Hai An commune (Hai Hau), in order to create unique features in the movement to build a model new countryside, the commune has implemented the construction of a "Mural Road" with diverse themes such as history, culture, local landscapes, etc. In particular, the painting of People's Armed Forces Hero Vu Xuan Thieu, a native son who heroically sacrificed his life while piloting a suicide plane to destroy an American B-52 aircraft. Comrade Pham Ngoc Uynh, Vice Chairman of Hai An Commune People's Committee, said: The mural road is nearly 2km long with about 700 paintings, surrounding the national historical relic complex of An Trach temple, cultural house... of hamlets 5 and 6. After 1 month of construction, nearly 30 painters and art teachers in the district urgently completed the project. Although over 70 years old, painter Nguyen Xuan Duong devoted all his efforts to painting 5 paintings on the mural road. Mr. Duong confided: “I had been away from my hometown for a long time, in 2015 I moved back to the commune to live. I know how to draw and am passionate about painting, so when the commune had a policy to build a mural road, I volunteered to participate. My paintings focus on reflecting the cultural beauty of my hometown, thereby sending a message to my children and grandchildren to preserve the cultural values and long-standing traditional customs in the locality”. Since the “mural road” was built, Hai An commune has put on a new coat. The mural road has become a check-in spot for many young people in and outside the district. Ms. Pham Thi Tuoi (60 years old), Hai An commune shared: “Since the mural road was built, the situation of littering on the street and drawing on the walls has decreased significantly. The landscape around the village is much cleaner and more beautiful. We all feel very excited, proud and hope that this model will be further expanded”.

In Nam Van commune ( Nam Dinh city), the Nam Van commune Youth Union coordinated with the Korean Student Union to create a unique "mural road". Accordingly, with the consent of the Party Committee and the People's Committee of the commune, in 2020, the Executive Committee of the Commune Youth Union mobilized union members and young people to carry out the "mural road" project. With the help of the Korean student union and art teachers in the commune, the nearly 1km long mural road was completed on schedule. Under the talented hands of young artists, the dry brick walls have turned into vivid paintings with many meaningful themes that have the effect of propagating and mobilizing young people and the community to stay away from drugs and social evils; comply with traffic safety laws, build new rural areas, and protect the environment. The sketching follows the rule of starting from large areas first and then small areas, demarcating the far, near, and intermediate spaces, then focusing on the main details of the painting. To create depth for the mural, the artists painted the background according to the principle of moving from far to near. When going into details, the artists used color pens and trimming pens to trace large areas of color and then used trimming pens to trim small details...

The vivid murals and colorful flower carpets that bloom every day in small alleys and country roads in localities in the province seem to dispel the worries and fatigue of people after a hard day's work, contributing to making the space in residential areas increasingly civilized and modern.
