Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) has just released data showing that iPhone users remain exceptionally loyal to the brand.

Specifically, new data shows that 89% of users still buy another iPhone when they upgrade their phone. This figure, known as the loyalty rate, measures how often customers stick with the same brand.

Although 89% of users remained loyal to Apple after upgrading, this figure represents a decline from 94% in 2021.

Meanwhile, Samsung is gradually gaining market share, or at least retaining more users. Accordingly, in the latest CIRP summary, the South Korean giant's customer retention rate is said to have increased to approximately 77%.

Apple Insider notes that Samsung has benefited greatly from LG's withdrawal from the US smartphone market in 2021, alongside the shrinking of its Android competitors. With fewer options to switch to, Samsung has become the default choice for many users who still want to stick with Android, even if it's not necessarily the most popular brand.

Previously, another CIRP report from April 2024 showed that the iPhone's market share of all activated smartphones had reached its lowest level in six years, measured as a percentage of new sales in the US.

Accordingly, Apple products now account for only 33% of new sales, a percentage not seen since 2018. For comparison, in early and mid-2023, iPhones held up to 40% of the smartphone activation market share in the US. However, this figure had dropped to 36% by the end of 2023.
