Tennis legend Novak Djokovic will not participate in the two Masters 1000 tournaments that are a precursor to the final Grand Slam of the year.

This is the first time since 2005 that Djokovic has arrived in New York without playing a match on the summer hard-court tour.

Djokovic decided not to participate in Cincinnati, Masters 1000, the tournament starting on August 7.

The Serbian legend also withdrew from the Masters 1000 in Canada earlier and decided to skip the entire hard-court tour ahead of the US Open, where he will take to the court without having played a single official match this summer.

With this decision, Djokovic prioritizes physical recovery and schedule management, in a season where the Grand Slams remain central to his plans.

Nole has not played since losing to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semi-finals, when he also suffered a groin injury.

This is the first time in two decades that Djokovic will come to the 2025 US Open without playing in either the Canadian Open or Cincinnati.

In 2021, while he missed both tournaments because he needed to recover from the Tokyo Olympics, he still had matches in the summer before that.

In 2022, Nole cannot participate in the US tour due to medical regulations (not allowed to enter because of refusing to get the Covid-19 vaccine), but that is not a professional decision.

Djokovic's plan is clear: he is all-in for the US Open, with ambitions of winning his 25th Grand Slam title. Last year he reached the final, and in 2021 he is just one step away from winning the title.

Djokovic has no points to defend in Canada and Cincinnati, so the decision does not affect his ATP ranking (he is currently No. 6).
