Despite stumbling over a pothole at the start of the race, Do Quoc Luat, an athlete from the Army team, still won overwhelmingly in the men's 10km race at the national championships on the morning of March 31st.

Quoc Luat finished in 31 minutes and 12 seconds, far ahead of younger runners like Dao Minh Thien, Luong Duc Phuoc, Trinh Quoc Luong... This time is even better than the 31-year-old's winning time last year - 31 minutes and 20 seconds.

Quoc Luat's victory was decided by a brilliant sprint in the latter half of the race, when he broke away from the pack and gradually widened the gap with the chasing group. Upon crossing the finish line, the athlete from the military team raised his fist to the sky and made a heart shape with his hands, facing the spectators.

"I arrived in Phu Yen early and prepared thoroughly for the race, and I'm very happy that my efforts have paid off. I'm proud to have defended my gold medal and won this event for the 10th time. At the start, the large number of athletes caused me some problems, and after about 100 meters, I tripped over a pothole and twisted my ankle slightly. However, luckily, that incident didn't affect my performance," Quoc Luat said after crossing the finish line.

Last year, when the tournament was held in Lai Chau , Quoc Luat broke the record of legendary Bui Luong with his ninth consecutive national championship title. This year, he set another new record, becoming the sole holder of the most gold medals in the history of the tournament, surpassing the legendary Bui Luong by one gold medal.

This year's Tien Phong National Marathon and Long-Distance Championship – Tien Phong Marathon – marks its 65th edition, with 11,500 athletes competing. Of these, over 11,000 are amateur athletes and 250 are professional athletes affiliated with organizations nationwide. The competition features 12 events for elite athletes and eight events for amateur athletes.
