In a recent “dissection” video , a technology YouTuber conducted a test to disassemble the Red Magic 11 Pro+ water cooling system and install it on an iPhone 17 Pro Max as well as an iPhone XR to verify the cooling capacity. The results brought many surprises, at the same time revealing the effective limits of water cooling on smartphones.
According to the test content, the Red Magic 11 Pro+ water cooling system can be removed. In theory, it can be installed on many other devices. The performer compared the performance score before and after installing the water cooling to check the efficiency.
Before the change, the Red Magic 11 Pro+ scored 4.14 million points in the performance test, the iPhone 17 Pro Max scored around 2.4 million. The iPhone XR scored 640,000 points after replacing the metal back to improve heat dissipation.
The water cooling system was then removed from the Red Magic 11 Pro+. Its structure consists of a PZO ceramic-controlled water pump and a liquid line running along the body. The test initially failed because the battery's 3.7V power supply was not enough to activate the pump. After using a Red Magic charger with a higher voltage, the system returned to normal operation.
The performer continued to place the water cooling cluster on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro Max and fixed it. After running the performance measurement again, the result increased by about 200,000 points, reaching 2.6 million points. This is a significant improvement compared to before. This shows that water cooling can help maintain higher performance during heavy processing tasks.
Meanwhile, the same test on the iPhone XR did not show a significant difference, with the score only increasing slightly from 640,000 to 641,581. The cause seems to be due to the broken glass back, preventing the system from being able to get close and transfer heat effectively.
Finally, when the Red Magic 11 Pro+ was re-run after removing the water cooling system, the score dropped from 4.14 million to 4.12 million, a difference of about 20,000 points. Although not large, this result proves that the water cooling system still has a large effect, which comes from the active air cooling system, a core technology of the Red Magic series.
According to the share, users who want to experience Red Magic's fan-cooling technology can consider buying the Red Magic 10 Pro+ version, which is currently priced at around 3,400 yuan ( 478 USD ), only half the starting price of the 11 Pro+ model. This test shows that water cooling on smartphones does indeed bring performance improvements, but it also depends on the structure of the device and the overall heat dissipation ability.
