Vietnam sports delegation departs for ASIAD 19

On the evening of September 16, at the Conference Center 37 Hung Vuong (Hanoi), the Vietnamese Sports Delegation held a ceremony to send off its troops to the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD 19).

Before the ceremony began, delegates observed a minute of silence for the victims who died in the fire in Hanoi and the victims who died in the recent flash flood in Lao Cai.

The Vietnamese sports delegation donated 100 million VND to help share the losses of the victims of the mini apartment fire in Hanoi, the Vietnamese women's football team donated 40 million VND and the Vietnam Chess Federation donated 30 million VND.

The Vietnamese sports delegation to the 19th ASIAD has 504 members, including 337 athletes, 22 officials and 16 doctors (including four doctors for the men's and women's football teams). Our athletes will compete in 31 of the 40 sports of the Asian Games, striving to win from two to five gold medals.

The departure ceremony was held solemnly and meaningfully to encourage the spirit of the members of the Vietnam Sports Delegation to set out on their mission.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong highly appreciated the proactiveness and positivity of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism , the Department of Physical Training and Sports, and the Vietnam Olympic Committee in preparing for the 19th ASIAD. This is a great festival for sports delegations of countries and territories to demonstrate the good meanings of sports, the noble Olympic spirit, contributing to promoting good relations, solidarity, friendship, and mutual understanding among countries in the continent.

Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports, Head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation Dang Ha Viet thanked the leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, Government and people of the whole country for their attention, promising to try and compete with all his might, calmly, confidently, intelligently, creatively, and tenaciously with the highest responsibility and determination to win medals for the glory and colors of the Fatherland. At the same time, each member is a cultural ambassador, contributing to maintaining and strengthening solidarity, friendship, cooperation and development with countries in the continent.

The Vietnamese sports delegation to the 19th ASIAD has 504 members, including 337 athletes, 22 officials and 16 doctors (including four doctors for the men's and women's football teams). Our athletes will compete in 31 of the 40 sports of the Asian Games, striving to win from two to five gold medals.

Accordingly, the sports in which our national team participates are divided into groups with the potential to win medals or be counted for points and considered to qualify for the 2024 Olympics, such as: sepak takraw, karate, shooting, boxing, chess, rowing, wushu, kurash, athletics, archery, canoeing, swimming, taekwondo, chess, cycling, gymnastics, weightlifting, table tennis, roller, wrestling, judo, jujitsu, fencing, and groups of competitions that are meant to rub shoulders and accumulate experience: soccer, women's volleyball, badminton, tennis, golf.

Leaders of the Department of Physical Training and Sports and the Vietnam Sports Delegation have announced many bonus levels for athletes and coaches who won medals at the 19th ASIAD.

Accordingly, the Vietnam Olympic Committee will award 200 million VND for each Gold Medal; the National Sports Training Center will also award 200 million VND for Gold Medals, of which the coach will be awarded 100 million VND and the athlete will be awarded 100 million VND.

In addition, the Vietnam Athletics Federation also offered a separate reward of 600 million VND for the team gold medal and 300 million VND for the individual gold medal. Many sports federations also offered rewards for athletes who won gold medals such as: Vietnam Gymnastics Federation (100 million VND), Bodybuilding Federation (30 million VND), Sepak Takraw Federation (300 million VND), Judo Federation (300 million VND)...

The Vietnam Olympic Committee will award 200 million VND for each Gold Medal; the National Sports Training Center will also award 200 million VND for Gold Medals, of which the coach will be awarded 100 million VND and the athlete will be awarded 100 million VND.

The 19th ASIAD will officially start on September 23 and close on October 8 in Hangzhou city and several other localities in China such as Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jinhua, Shaoxing, and Huzhou.

Two athletes (one male, one female) holding the flag for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the opening ceremony of the 19th ASIAD were athlete Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming) and Bac Thi Khiem (taekwondo).
