Businesses are hesitant to invest in energy saving due to lack of capital.

(Dan Tri) - Although many energy-saving solutions have been implemented, many businesses in industrial parks are still hesitant to make large investments due to high costs, lack of green capital and unsynchronized incentive mechanisms.

Businesses save costs and "green" production

Speaking at the seminar “Using energy economically and efficiently: Sustainable investment for businesses” on the afternoon of October 2, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - Deputy Head of the Management Board of High-Tech Parks and Industrial Parks of Hanoi City - said that most businesses in industrial parks have clearly recognized the importance of energy saving.

“This not only helps reduce production costs but also meets the increasingly stringent requirements of the international market on green standards and sustainable development,” Mr. Tuan emphasized.

According to him, many businesses have proactively replaced old lighting systems with LED lights, installed frequency converters for motors, and improved boilers and cooling systems. Some units have also invested in rooftop solar power to partially self-sufficient in electricity sources, reduce dependence on the national grid, and limit greenhouse gas emissions.

“These models not only bring immediate economic benefits but also contribute to enhancing the image of enterprises in the global value chain, creating favorable conditions for market expansion and approaching international partners,” said Mr. Tuan.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Nguyen Van - Vice President of the Hanoi Association of Supporting Industry Enterprises - said that optimizing energy helps businesses reduce operating costs, thereby improving production and business efficiency.

Capital and institutional barriers make businesses hesitant

Despite the progress, the speakers all acknowledged that the biggest barrier today is investment capital. “Small and medium-sized enterprises really want to save energy, but face many limitations in terms of capital and resources,” Mr. Van shared.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan also said that many businesses in industrial parks have not been able to implement due to high initial investment costs. In addition, incentive policies are not yet consistent; green credit packages, tax incentives or land are still limited; loan procedures are complicated, making businesses not dare to invest heavily.

From the perspective of the management agency, Mr. Cu Huy Quang - representative of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) - said that the Ministry is coordinating with credit institutions and international funds to form green capital sources, supporting businesses in implementing energy saving projects.

“In particular, the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Fund is being established to support businesses. In addition, in support programs and projects, the Ministry also prioritizes technological solutions that are both modern and energy-saving, helping to reduce operating costs and emissions,” Mr. Quang shared.

According to him, the Ministry of Industry and Trade also strengthens cooperation with domestic and foreign financial institutions to expand preferential capital sources, thereby reducing the initial investment burden, creating conditions for businesses to gradually transition to green.
