Innovate and improve the effectiveness of propaganda work on sea and islands

In recent times, all levels, sectors, localities and units in the province have actively promoted propaganda work on seas and islands, thereby contributing significantly to raising awareness and love of seas and islands among the people, motivating the forces that are implementing management and protecting the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland. Phu Yen Newspaper interviewed Comrade Cao Thi Hoa An, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council about this work.

* Could you please tell us about the outstanding results in the coordination and propaganda work on the province's sea and islands in 2024?

 

- In 2024, localities and units in the province have actively implemented propaganda activities on seas and islands, ensuring close adherence to the contents according to the direction and orientation of the central government. The forces and forms of propaganda are rich and diverse, creating a strong change in the awareness and actions of cadres, party members and people, contributing to creating stability, unity and consensus in the Party and society.

 

In particular, the Provincial People's Committee directed the implementation of the tasks of managing and protecting the sovereignty of seas and islands and ensuring security and order in the maritime border areas; implementing key measures to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing; coordinating with relevant ministries, branches and agencies to successfully organize the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week; working with the Working Group of the Naval Region 4 Command on the situation of seas and islands...

 

The Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Education Department (now the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department) coordinated with the Naval Technical Department to organize a thematic information conference on the situation of the sea and islands. The Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department (now the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department) coordinated with the Coast Guard Region 3 Command to organize the 2024 I Love My Homeland's Sea and Islands contest.

 

The provincial Border Guard coordinated with the provincial Women's Union to effectively implement the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" for the period 2021-2025; coordinated with the Coast Guard Region 3 Command to perform the task of managing, protecting sovereignty and security and order at sea.

 

The Provincial Military Command has stepped up propaganda, mobilization, and raising awareness and responsibility of officers, soldiers, and people in strictly complying with domestic laws and international agreements and treaties related to Vietnam's seas and islands. The Provincial Police have coordinated well with localities and units to regularly patrol and ensure security and order in coastal border areas.

 

The Department of Information and Communications (now the Department of Science and Technology) coordinated with the Provincial Border Guard Command to organize 2 training conferences to disseminate legal knowledge on sovereignty and sea and island borders to fishermen. The Provincial Youth Union continued to coordinate with Brigade 682, Naval Region 4 to effectively implement the campaign of Border and Island Love for the period 2023-2028. The Department of Education and Training regularly coordinated with all levels of the Youth Union, localities, and units to continue implementing the campaigns For the homeland's sea and islands, Youth with the homeland's sea and islands...

 

To contribute to the whole country removing the yellow card against IUU fishing from the European Commission (EC), all levels, sectors and localities in the province have focused on doing a good job of propaganda and mobilizing people to strictly comply with the 2017 Fisheries Law and solutions to prevent and combat IUU fishing.

 

Along with that, the coordination with the Navy Command in propagating the sea and islands continues to be maintained and implemented well. Mass mobilization and gratitude work are also focused on with many practical and meaningful activities such as: coordinating with the Navy Technical Department to sponsor 6 cases of children of fishermen with especially difficult family circumstances; building 3 houses, presenting nearly 500 gifts to families of martyrs, meritorious people, and fishermen in difficult circumstances; presenting thousands of national flags to fishermen working at sea...

* How do you evaluate the effectiveness of propaganda work on sea and islands by newspapers, electronic information pages, and social networks?

 

- Press agencies in the province have continued to promote and effectively implement the task of propaganda about borders and islands. Phu Yen Newspaper and the Provincial Radio and Television Station have published and broadcast hundreds of news, articles, reports and programs on the topic of borders and islands. The radio and television systems of districts, towns and cities regularly broadcast programs and news about propaganda about islands. News bulletins of sectors, localities and units regularly publish propaganda content about the country's islands and seas.

 

In addition, the reporters and propagandists of localities and units in the province actively propagate about the situation in the East Sea, about the protection of sea and island sovereignty, maintaining political security and social order and safety in the coastal border area. Propaganda work on sea and islands on the internet and social networks is carried out regularly and effectively.

 

The Provincial Party Committee's website, electronic news sites, and interactive websites of localities and units continue to effectively carry out the task of propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's policies and laws on seas and islands, reaching a large number of internet and social network users.

 

* In 2025, what key tasks will the province's sea and island propaganda work focus on, comrade?

 

- In 2025, the province will continue to promote the key role of the press in information and propaganda activities about the sea and islands; increase news and articles about good people and good deeds in fields related to the sea and islands; and at the same time, promote the use of new forms of communication in propaganda work about the sea and islands.

 

All levels, sectors, localities and units should strengthen research and forecast the situation; proactively orient and direct propaganda work on seas and islands; pay attention to and create favorable conditions for the Phu Yen community abroad and foreigners working in Phu Yen, international press, experts and scientists to participate in propaganda activities on Vietnam's seas and islands.

 

At the same time, continue to innovate and improve the effectiveness of the fight against bad, toxic, untrue information, distorted and destructive arguments of hostile forces and political opportunists on issues related to national sovereignty and sea and island borders.

 

All levels, sectors, localities and units need to innovate the forms and methods of propaganda, focusing on the grassroots level; coordinate with propaganda and education about the sea and islands for the younger generation; maintain the preliminary and final summaries, and draw lessons to improve the effectiveness of propaganda and coordination work. Along with proactively coordinating to develop propaganda scenarios and orient propaganda on complex issues that arise; all levels, sectors, localities and units need to issue publications and documents to serve propaganda work on the sea and islands.

 

The Provincial Party Committee will continue to effectively implement the program of coordinating propaganda on sea and islands with the Navy, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Coast Guard; promote propaganda on the position and core role of the Vietnam People's Navy in performing the task of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland; in preventing and combating IUU fishing of the EC; search and rescue activities at sea, especially in remote areas... so that fishermen can confidently stay at sea, contributing to affirming and protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland. All levels and sectors will promote the work of promoting and introducing the potential of sea and island tourism associated with local culture; calling for investment in developing sea and island tourism...
