The Vietnamese women's team won a resounding 6-1 victory over Bangladesh in the second round of the 19th ASIAD group stage, thereby continuing to rank second in the group with the same 6 points as Japan, but ranked behind due to an inferior goal difference.
This was a match in which coach Mai Duc Chung's players played better than in the opening match against the Nepal women's team, but the coaching staff was not completely satisfied with the players.
"We also achieved the three goals we set out to achieve: three points, scoring many goals, and no players getting cards or injuries. Today, the coaching staff put many young players on the field to learn and compete, while also helping the older players, the pillars, to prepare for the match against the Japanese women's team.
Vietnam women's team needs to improve in terms of expertise
However, some positions have not done as I requested. That is something that the coaching staff needs to constantly remind. What has not been done, we need to focus on and practice more. I want the players to see the main task, not that the women's team is here to travel and have fun.
The Vietnamese women's team must focus on their tasks, but some players have not fulfilled the requirements. Although we won by a large margin, in the first half, we did not play at our best. In the second half, when we replaced key players, we increased our attack and scored more goals. That proves that the young players have not fulfilled the requirements of the coaching staff," said coach Mai Duc Chung.
The 74-year-old strategist also said that the Vietnamese women's team had opened up space on the flanks to exploit and score goals, but there were still many poorly coordinated attacks.
"The FIFA rankings have correctly assessed the strength of the two teams. The Bangladesh women's team is ranked lower than Nepal, so they are clearly not as good as us. However, as I have assessed before, we cannot be subjective. They defend tightly and counterattack quickly. As I intended, we have opened up space on both sides.
However, the team still has not been able to exploit their weakness on the left wing. The midfielders have not been able to pass behind the opponent's central defenders for us to attack. We also missed opportunities, which is something I am not satisfied with," Mr. Chung shared.

"Tran Thi Duyen played better in the second half but her competition was not good, leading to a penalty for the opponent. Duyen's positioning, competition and coordination were not good. That needs to be improved.
Nguyen Thi Hoa is the same, this player is young and playing for the national team for the first time , so she has not chosen a good position, is not confident, does not know how to move, and passes loosely. Young players can play well at the club, but it must be different in the international arena. They have not done well."
In the final match, the Vietnamese women's team will face Japan. In the most recent encounter (group stage of the 2022 Asian Cup), Vietnam lost 0-3 to Japan. Coach Mai Duc Chung said that his students must improve more in the final match taking place on September 28.
"To prepare for the match against the Japanese women's team, we need to supplement a lot. With all our efforts focused on the World Cup, the Vietnamese women's team's strength has been exhausted. We have only been training for 1 month and for women's football, that is quite a bit.
We need more time to concentrate. The players need to improve their physical strength and coordination. In the match against the Japanese women's team, we and they both have 6 points. However, the direct confrontation result is very important. We must play well and make sure to line up the main team, not the youth team," Coach Mai Duc Chung concluded.
