The UEFA Nations League semi-final 2 between Spain and Italy was extremely dramatic and exciting. A goal by substitute Joselu for Spain in the 88th minute brought victory to the team from the Iberian Peninsula.
Returning to the match, Spain was the more proactive team and attacked from the very first minutes. After only 3 minutes of play, Spain concretized their dominance with Pino's opening goal. Starting from a careless pass from goalkeeper Donnarumma of Italy, Pino quickly stole the ball and unleashed a dangerous shot, not giving the 24-year-old goalkeeper a chance to correct his mistake.
However, Spain could not maintain the advantage for too long. Just 7 minutes later, Italy immediately scored an equalizer. Spanish defender Le Normand handled the ball in the penalty area and the referee awarded Italy a penalty. At the 11m mark, striker Immobile made no mistake to bring the match back to the starting line.
In the remaining time of the first half, both teams created many clear scoring opportunities but there were no more goals. Notably, Italian midfielder Frattesi put the ball into the Spanish net but it was disallowed due to offside.
In the second half, Spain and Italy both made personnel adjustments. The match was still exciting as the two teams continuously attacked each other's goals.
The most notable situation was when Italy's Frattesi fired a powerful shot but goalkeeper Unai Simon reacted brilliantly to save Spain.
Time passed in the final minutes, it seemed like the match would go into extra time, but Spain suddenly scored the decisive goal. In the 88th minute, Rodri fired a shot that hit the Italian defenders and then found Joselu. The Spanish substitute quickly seized the opportunity to increase the score to 2-1. This was also the final result of the match.
If they win, coach Luis de la Fuente's team will meet Croatia in the final in Rotterdam on June 19. Meanwhile, Italy will compete for third place with the Netherlands a day earlier./.
