“The memorial site of the battle of Squad 23, Vinh Linh Armed Police on October 16, 1964” is located in Thien Chanh village, old Cam Thuy commune (now Hieu Giang commune). In this area, on October 16, 1964, a battle took place between soldiers of Squad 23, Vinh Linh Armed Police against the sweep operation of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. The battle was extremely fierce, but with the difference in numbers and weapons, 16 soldiers of Squad 23, Vinh Linh Armed Police fought bravely, steadfastly and will forever remain on this land.

The ranking of the provincial historical relic "Commemorative site of the battle of the 23rd Battalion of the Vinh Linh Armed Police on October 16, 1964" is a significant event not only for the martyrs' relatives but also an honor for the Party Committee, Government and People of Hieu Giang commune.
Once recognized, this site will be a place for relatives, families of martyrs and local people to care for, preserve and pay tribute to the souls of heroic martyrs on every holiday and Tet.
At the same time, it is also a "red address" to educate the heroic and indomitable fighting tradition of the Vietnam People's Army to officers and soldiers of the armed forces, people inside and outside the province, especially the young generation, to better understand the value of peace , responsibility, and solidarity to build and protect the Fatherland.
Previously, on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, the Provincial Border Guard Command visited and offered flowers and incense to pay tribute to heroic martyrs at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel National Special Relic, Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery, Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery and the memorial site of the battle of Squad 23, Vinh Linh Armed Police.
