The Department issued many documents directing local health departments and affiliated units to strengthen state management in the production and trading of drugs, cosmetics, and functional foods in the area; integrating the tasks of inspection and supervision of activities to prevent smuggling, trade fraud, and production and trading of counterfeit and poor-quality goods into the activities of private medical and pharmaceutical practice inspection teams.
Focusing on the following contents: Reviewing the licensing activities for production, import, circulation, advertising, appraisal, quality certification, conformity certification, and standards for pharmaceutical products, cosmetics, functional foods, medicinal herbs, and traditional medicinal herbs. Strengthening inspection, post-inspection, periodic and surprise checks on compliance with standards, product quality registration, business registration, business conditions, invoices, documents, origin, and provenance... for pharmaceutical products, cosmetics, functional foods, medicinal herbs, and traditional medicinal herbs of organizations and individuals producing and trading in the above-mentioned products. Detect inadequacies, overlaps, and shortcomings to unify, recommend, and propose competent authorities to amend, supplement, or issue new legal documents on technical expertise, standards, regulations, and inspection procedures for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, functional foods, medicinal herbs, and traditional medicine ingredients in accordance with the functions and tasks of the industry.
The Department of Health publicly announces a hotline on the Department's website and its affiliated units to receive reports on violations of manufacturing and trading of counterfeit and poor-quality goods in the group of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, functional foods, medicinal herbs and traditional medicine in the whole province.
In the first quarter of 2025, the Department conducted 2 inspections and examinations of compliance with legal regulations on private medical and pharmaceutical practice; issued 12 documents directing pharmaceutical businesses and medical examination and treatment facilities to inspect, review and recall according to regulations 24 items of drugs and cosmetics that do not meet quality standards, counterfeit drugs and suspected counterfeit drugs according to the notices of state management agencies at all levels; announced the recall of 239 cosmetic product declaration receipt numbers, 15 drug circulation registration certificates in Vietnam according to documents of the Drug Administration of Vietnam, Department of Health of provinces and cities; inspected the quality of 68 establishments, took 170 samples for quality testing. Through testing results, no substandard samples were detected.
Mr. Pham Xuan Phuc, Head of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Department (Department of Health), said: As soon as information related to fake drugs and fake milk was received on the mass media, on April 17, 2025, the Department issued an official dispatch to the local health departments, warning about fake drugs and drugs circulating illegally on the market. On April 21, 2025, the Department chaired the establishment of a surprise inspection team for the production and trading of drugs, cosmetics, and functional foods. By the end of May 6, 2025, the provincial health sector had chaired the organization of 14 interdisciplinary teams, conducting inspections at 204 pharmaceutical businesses; taking 122 drug samples, 22 cosmetic samples, and 77 health food samples for quality testing. The inspection process did not detect any establishments trading in the items as announced by the Ministry of Health ; the test results of all samples met the prescribed quality standards.
Along with the involvement of authorities, people also need to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge to be able to choose products effectively.
