Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia visited and worked in Italy

During the visit, the delegation had meetings and discussions with Vice President of the Senate Maurizio Gasparri, Vice President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian House of Representatives, President of the Italy-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group Lia Quartapelle, General Secretary of the Communist Reestablishment Party of Italy (PRC-EL) Maurizio Acerbo, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Italy (PCI) Mauro Alboresi, Vice President of the Democratic Party of Italy Chiara Gribaudo, Vice President of the Veneto region Elisa de Berti, General Director of the International Center for Research on the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (ICCROM) Webber Ndoro, President of the Italy-Vietnam Friendship Association and the Italy-Vietnam Mutual Assistance Association; visited and worked with many Italian agencies and organizations in the fields of culture, education, information and communication such as the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research, the University of the Orient, Napoli, Anteo Edizioni Publishing House, the Italian News Agency (ANSA), and Ca' Foscari University in Venice.

In particular, the delegation attended the workshop “The life of President Ho Chi Minh in Italy” chaired by the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy, with the participation of the General Secretary of the Italian Communist Party, the General Secretary of the Italian Communist Re-establishment Party, representatives of the Italian Democratic Party, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anteo Publishing House, ANSA News Agency, the Italy-Vietnam Friendship Association, the Honorary Consul of Italy in Vietnam, leaders of localities with libraries of books on President Ho Chi Minh, experts, Italian historical researchers and many Italian friends who love Vietnam. Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia delivered the opening speech at the workshop. The delegation also visited the Ho Chi Minh Monument in Milan; visited the Embassy and met with staff of the Vietnamese representative agency and overseas Vietnamese in Italy.

At the meetings, the delegation emphasized that the purpose of the visit was to further strengthen the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership in the context of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership, expressing gratitude for the affection that Italian communists and people had for President Ho Chi Minh as well as the valuable support and assistance of Italian friends for the struggle for national independence and reunification of the Vietnamese people in the past as well as the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland at present.

With Italian partners, the delegation informed about Vietnam's recent socio-economic development situation, the country's development goals and strategies in the coming time according to the guidelines of the 13th National Congress, including the development of Vietnamese culture and people in the spirit of the direction of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized that Vietnam and Italy have established solid relationship frameworks, in which the traditional relationship between the Communist Party of Vietnam and political parties in Italy is an extremely important foundation for continuing to develop effective bilateral relations in all fields. With many similarities in development goals between Vietnam and Italy, he proposed that Italian partners support Vietnam's development guidelines, viewpoints, policies as well as foreign policies, and coordinate to convey Vietnam's foreign messages to the Government, localities and people of Italy, so that international friends can better understand Vietnam's history, country, culture, people, innovation achievements and foreign policies, contributing to the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership to continue to develop deeply, substantially and effectively. The delegation made specific proposals to further promote bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of culture, education-training, science-technology and information and communication, as well as cooperation and coordination between the two countries on global issues such as handling fake news, responding to climate change and rising sea levels.

The leaders of the National Assembly, political parties and friends of Italy warmly and sincerely welcomed the delegation, affirming that the delegation's working visit contributed significantly to consolidating and deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries. Appreciating the role and position of Vietnam in the Asia-Pacific region and the world, Italian leaders affirmed that they considered Vietnam an important partner in the region and expressed their joy at the extremely positive and increasingly strong development of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Italian side paid close attention to the updated information on the situation in Vietnam, affirming that the Party and State of Vietnam have handled the Covid-19 pandemic very skillfully, setting an example for many countries to learn from. The Italian side shared the proposals of the Delegation, and at the same time suggested that Vietnam continue to create favorable conditions for Italian enterprises to invest in Vietnam. Italy highly appreciated the policies and guidelines of the Party and State of Vietnam on cultural and human development, expressing its belief that the visit is an opportunity to further promote educational and cultural exchanges, including strengthening the teaching of Vietnamese language and culture in Italy and Italian language and culture in Vietnam, and sharing experiences in preserving cultural heritage between the two countries.

At the meeting with the Embassy and representative agencies of Vietnam and overseas Vietnamese in Italy, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia informed the main points of the viewpoints, policies and guidelines of the Party and State, the socio-economic development, foreign affairs and international integration since the 13th Congress; visited and listened to the proposals of the staff of the representative agencies and overseas Vietnamese, especially the Vietnamese intellectuals who have lived and worked in Italy for many years.

He highly appreciated the contributions and achievements of the Embassy and representative agencies in the past time; encouraged the staff of the Embassy and representative agencies to continue to make efforts to better fulfill the political tasks assigned by the Party and State. He also shared the aspirations of overseas Vietnamese in Italy, hoping that they would continue to integrate well with the host country, while looking towards their homeland, promoting their important role as a bridge to further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Italy.
