4.8 magnitude earthquake on the border in Thanh Hoa, Hanoi shakes

On the night of November 12, in Houaphan province (Laos) - 5km from the Vietnam border in Thanh Hoa, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake occurred. People in Hanoi, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa... felt the tremors from this earthquake.

In the early morning of November 13, the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center (Earth Sciences Institute) said that an earthquake had just occurred in Houaphan province (Laos).

Accordingly, at 11:26 p.m. on November 12, in Houaphan province - about 5km from the Vietnam border in Na Meo commune ( Thanh Hoa province) - a 4.8 magnitude earthquake occurred. The focal depth was about 10km.

Although the earthquake was near Thanh Hoa, people in Hanoi , Phu Tho, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An... also felt the tremors from this earthquake.

Ms. Minh Ngoc (living in Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) said that she felt the shaking while lying down, the glass door hitting each other and making a rattling sound for a few seconds.

"I was working when I saw the computer screen shake slightly twice. I felt a little dizzy and a little buzzing. I was dizzy for a few seconds" - Mr. Tuan Anh (in Ha Dong, Hanoi) described.

Ms. Mai Le (in Ba Thuoc, Thanh Hoa) said she had just gotten into bed when she felt a strong shaking. "I immediately jumped up, but my body swayed for a few seconds."

Ms. Yen Nhi (in Viet Tri ward, Phu Tho) shared: "I was sitting at my desk when I felt it shake twice, I thought it was a tanker truck passing by and shaking the desk. Later I realized it was an earthquake."

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center assessed this earthquake as having a level 1 natural disaster risk and is continuing to monitor it.
