Building a strong association
Implementing the 2-level local government model according to the Central Government's policy, Farmers' Associations at all levels in Can Tho City focus on stabilizing the organizational structure. In particular, the Standing Committee of the City Farmers' Association directs Farmers' Associations of communes and wards to quickly complete the personnel structure, rearrange the branches and groups of the Association in accordance with the new administrative boundaries, ensuring that the Association's activities are not interrupted or disrupted.
The training and professional development of the Association's staff is focused on; the staff's capacity and level are raised, gradually meeting the requirements and tasks. The work of developing members and improving the quality of members is always of concern.
The Association at all levels constantly innovates the content and methods of operation, closely following the grassroots and practical needs of members, linking the practical interests of members with the Association's activities, such as: loan support, scientific and technical training, legal advice... Thanks to that, members and farmers increasingly trust and attach to the organization, considering the Association as a solid support, a place to protect their legitimate and legal rights and interests.
After the merger, the organizational structure of the Can Tho City Farmers' Association has 22 officials, civil servants and workers. The Commune Farmers' Association has 100 units (including 28 wards and 72 communes), the total number of farmers in the city is 300,949 members.
Compete in production and good business
Over the years, the Farmers' Association at all levels has coordinated with relevant sectors to transfer science and technology, support members and farmers in applying science to production through organizing training courses, seminars, guiding technical processes, providing knowledge on varieties, fertilizers and plant protection. At the same time, promoting the application of digital transformation and connecting products with the market.
Farmers' Associations at all levels have built and developed the Farmers' Support Fund, making an important contribution to supporting thousands of farming households to expand their scale, invest in modern machinery and equipment for production and business. Currently, the total capital of the City's Farmers' Support Fund after consolidation is more than 209 billion VND, disbursed to 835 projects, with a total of 5,445 borrowers. The Standing Committee of the City Farmers' Association has advised on the consolidation of the Project to perfect the organization and operation of the Can Tho City Farmers' Support Fund for the period 2025-2030. Along with that, credit activities have been effectively promoted, such as the Social Policy Bank, Kien Long Bank, Soc Trang branch, Lien Viet Post Bank, Hau Giang branch... disbursing loans to over 51,000 borrowers, with outstanding loans of over 7,000 billion VND.
With the attention and support of the Association at all levels, the Farmers' emulation movement for good production and business continues to be a bright spot, creating a strong spread. In the past 2 years, each year the city has 297,640 farmer households registering to compete for the title of good farmers in production and business; through evaluation, each year there are more than 189,000 households achieving the title of good production and business at all levels. The city has established 33 "Outstanding Billionaire Farmers" clubs and 78 "Good Farmers in Production and Business" clubs. The clubs are maintained and developed, becoming places to gather, share experiences, and replicate production models with high economic efficiency.
Through the movement of good farmers in production and business, many typical examples of farmers have emerged, "barefoot billionaires" who dare to think and do, not only enriching their families but also creating jobs for many local workers; at the same time, actively participating in building new rural areas. Typical examples include Mr. Tran Van Phuc (Cu Lao Dung commune) with a model of developing eco-tourism in a specialty fruit garden (Hong San Tien plum) with a revenue of 40 billion VND/year; Mr. Nguyen Van Bi (O Mon ward) built a model of growing safe vegetables according to VietGAP process and 50 associated households, supplying more than 5 tons of vegetables/day, with a revenue of 17 billion VND/year; Mr. Le Van Sau (Tan Binh commune) with a model of growing durian, with an income of 6 billion VND/year; Mr. Tran Cong Danh (Truong Thanh commune) with a model of producing rice seeds combined with agricultural service business, with a revenue of 2.2 billion VND/year; Mr. Ly Van Bon (Binh Thuy ward) with a fish farming, processing and tourism service model, income over 10 billion VND/year...
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Su, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Can Tho City, in the 2025-2030 term, the Farmers' Associations at all levels in the city will focus on solutions to continue raising awareness of members and farmers about building the Vietnamese peasant class in the period of industrialization, modernization and international integration. The Associations at all levels are constantly innovating, creating, and determined to build an increasingly strong Association; promoting the movement of Farmers competing in production and good business; developing agriculture in the direction of concentrated and specialized production, forming large-scale commodity production areas associated with the advantages of each locality. Promoting the application of standards, regulations and scientific and technological advances in production, harvesting, preservation and processing to improve productivity, quality and value of agricultural products. At the same time, build a production model that is in harmony with nature, adapts to climate change, reduces input costs, protects the ecological environment, and moves towards green, sustainable, and efficient agriculture. Thereby, contributing to the construction of advanced, exemplary new rural areas and civilized urban areas; promoting internal strength, taking advantage of opportunities, and arousing the aspiration to develop Can Tho City to become increasingly rich and civilized...
