Product development efforts

At the end of the year, the working atmosphere at the cake production facility of Quy Thu Production - Trading Company Limited in Phu My village (Que Xuan 2 commune, Que Son) is quite bustling. Day and night, dozens of workers work hard to supply products to consumers during Tet.

Ms. Luu Thi Thu - Director of Quy Thu Production - Trading Company Limited said that her facility produces 6 types of cakes, of which 3 main types have been ranked 3 - 4 stars OCOP: grilled coconut cake, chewy skin cake, and square sticky rice cake, products that are popular with consumers.

Meanwhile, Mr. Truong Cam - Director of Ai Nghia Agricultural Cooperative (Dai Loc) said that from the beginning of October 2024 until now, the unit has mobilized maximum human resources to focus on promoting production and processing of two main products: safe rice and dipped rice paper to ensure enough supply for the Tet market.

“Dai Loc rice paper was ranked 4-star OCOP in 2018 and Ai Nghia safe rice achieved 3-star OCOP in 2019. In recent years, the consumption output of these two products has continuously increased sharply. In 2024 alone, the unit will sell 300 tons of safe rice and 15 tons of rice paper, earning approximately 6 billion VND,” Mr. Cam shared.

Mr. Tran Van Noa - Head of the Quang Nam Rural Development Department said that despite the difficult conditions, the province has still devoted large resources to the OCOP program. In the period of 2018 - 2024, the Provincial People's Committee has allocated nearly 75.2 billion VND to support the implementation of this program.

After more than 6 years of implementation, the OCOP program has attracted 325 participants in the province; including 164 individual production and business households, 118 cooperatives and cooperative groups, and 43 enterprises. By the end of 2023, Quang Nam has 407 products recognized as meeting OCOP standards, including 346 3-star products and 61 4-star products.

Many opinions say that over the past 6 years, the OCOP program has contributed to encouraging small and medium enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and individual households to develop in conjunction with promoting restructuring of the agricultural sector.

Along with that, developing craft villages and traditional product production facilities based on resources, identity and creativity of the people to increase value and competitiveness in the market.

Create a “push”

Mr. Truong Xuan Ty - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development assessed that despite achieving important results, the development of OCOP products in Quang Nam in recent years still has many limitations.

Notably, the number of individual business households registering to participate in the program accounts for a relatively high proportion (50% of the total number of OCOP participants), most of whom have small-scale production, limited management and operation capacity, are passive in terms of capital, and are confused in finding markets for their products.

At a conference connecting producers with partners consuming OCOP products, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vu - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in the coming time, efforts should be made to create a "push" in implementing the OCOP program. OCOP entities should pay attention to investing in production and developing products according to Global GAP, Organic, GMP, HACCP, ISO standards...

Develop new products from the main agricultural product categories of Quang Nam; limit the registration of fresh products, raw products without preliminary processing and duplicate products. In particular, focus on developing OCOP products in the direction of chain linkage. Cooperate and link from production, preliminary processing, processing to product consumption to increase value, meet market standards and demands.

“Relevant sectors and local authorities will also actively support entities to promote communication and trade promotion for OCOP products to promote their image and connect to consumer markets. At the same time, we will focus on investing in building a number of district-level OCOP centers, developing and upgrading OCOP sales points. Support entities to put OCOP products on e-commerce platforms...” - Mr. Vu added.
