New move of airport project in the "capital" of Vietnam's coastal resort real estate

The Phan Thiet Airport project in Thien Nghiep commune, Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province, is being actively implemented by Binh Thuan province, with the goal of starting construction of the civil aviation section in October 2025 and putting it into operation at the end of 2026.

Giao thong Newspaper reported that on March 18, Mr. Huynh Ngoc Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction of Binh Thuan province, said that the Department is currently coordinating with the consulting unit to complete and prepare the Feasibility Study Report for the Phan Thiet Airport project (Phan Thiet airport), preparing the final steps to restart the civil airport project.

Phan Thiet Airport (combining military and civil) was planned by the Ministry of Transport in 2013, covering 543 hectares, and built in Thien Nghiep commune. The Ministry of National Defense has authority over the military category, while the civil aviation category is chaired by the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province.

After that, the project was approved by the Prime Minister to upgrade the airport from level 4C to level 4E, Phan Thiet airport was upgraded to an airport, with a 3,050 m long runway, a passenger terminal with a designed capacity of 2 million passengers per year.

The project was started in early 2015, then paused. In April 2021, the project was restarted. Recently, the Air Defense - Air Force has carried out runways, taxiways, aircraft parking areas... according to the plan.

Initially, Rang Dong Joint Stock Company won the BOT contract for the civil project of the 4C-level airport. However, after the Prime Minister agreed to adjust the scale to level 4E, the project had to carry out procedures to adjust the investment policy according to the regulations on public-private partnerships of the Investment Law.

Following the Prime Minister's direction, Binh Thuan has reviewed and agreed to terminate the contract ahead of schedule with Rang Dong investor and is selecting a suitable replacement investor.

Currently, the Phan Thiet airport military project has begun to be used.

The completion and operation of Phan Thiet airport will contribute significantly to promoting the socio-economic development of Binh Thuan province, especially in the tourism sector, creating favorable conditions for traffic connection and attracting investment in the region.

Binh Thuan with its long and beautiful coastline is considered the "capital" of resort real estate in the Central region. Currently, along the length of the coastline of this province, a series of high-end resort real estate projects of domestic and international investors have been formed. The addition of air connections will further promote the resort real estate market in Binh Thuan in the coming time.
