Dong Thap: Focus on disseminating measures to prevent and respond to natural disasters

(ABO) Implementing the direction of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province in Official Dispatch No. 353 dated July 31, 2025, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (VH-TT&DL) of Dong Thap province has just issued Official Dispatch No. 424 on communication of preventive measures and response to rain, floods, thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, storms, tropical depressions, riverbank erosion and dangerous weather in the province from now until the end of 2025.

Accordingly, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested Dong Thap Newspaper, Radio and Television, and People's Committees of communes and wards to organize propaganda activities based on their functions, tasks and actual situation at the unit and locality.

Specifically, propagate and implement Official Dispatch No. 76/CD-TTg dated May 28, 2025 of the Prime Minister on focusing on responding to the risk of heavy rain, landslides, flash floods and proactively preventing and combating natural disasters in the coming time; Directive 19/CT-TTg dated June 19, 2025 of the Prime Minister on strengthening the work of preventing, combating and overcoming damage caused by natural disasters before the 2025 storm season; seriously implement the direction of the Provincial People's Committee.

At the same time, strengthen propaganda and dissemination of legal regulations, disseminate knowledge, guide people on skills to recognize and respond to natural disasters, minimize damage caused by landslides and riverbank erosion; promptly broadcast news, forecasts, warnings about floods, storms, tropical depressions, State regulations on natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue; provide accurate and timely information on weather developments, natural disasters, and direction of response and overcoming consequences of natural disasters.

Units and localities focus on regular and continuous propaganda.

According to the Provincial People's Committee, since the beginning of the year, there have been 4 storms in the East Sea. Although they did not directly affect the province, the storm's circulation caused heavy rains and whirlwinds, killing 2 people due to lightning, injuring 19 people, destroying 664 houses (71 collapsed, 593 roofs blown off) and 20.68 hectares of agricultural production.

In addition, there were 32 landslides and subsidence points in the province with a landslide length of 1,277 m, collapsing 1 house, 4 rented rooms and affecting the lives of many households. The total estimated damage was about 25.9 billion VND.
