Dong Trieu Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. is currently managing over 11,000 hectares of forest, of which over 522 hectares are special-use forest land, nearly 8,800 hectares are protective forest land and over 1,700 hectares are production forest land. Due to the impact of storm No. 3 ( Yagi ), the unit suffered damage of over 100 hectares. In order to quickly overcome the consequences and restore forestry production, from the beginning of 2025, Dong Trieu Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. has developed a plan to plant 36 hectares of forest with about 60,000 kalybe pine trees. This is mostly the forest area damaged in storm No. 3, which has been completed by the unit for liquidation procedures and a plan for replacement forest planting.
Mr. Cao Van Tuan, Head of Planning and Technical Department, Dong Trieu Forestry One Member Co., Ltd., said: To ensure sufficient seedling sources, from the beginning of the year, the unit has proactively carried out seedling cultivation, ensuring the quality of planted forests. The company coordinated with the consulting unit to inspect the site, establish soil samples, establish a forest planting estimate file and has been appraised by the Department of Agriculture and Environment. At the same time, the company has prepared a contractor selection report for the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Finance for approval. Regarding the site, the company has prepared human and material resources so that when all procedures are completed, the implementation of clearing the ground cover, digging holes, and planting trees will be ensured on schedule and with the best quality of plants.
Localities have also actively promoted propaganda, mobilized and instructed people and forest owners to take advantage of favorable weather to plant forests, ensuring early completion of the assigned plan. A typical example is Trang Luong commune, in 2025, the city assigned the target of planting 350 hectares of forest. Up to now, 310 hectares have been planted, of which 30 hectares are planted with pine trees supported by the city, over 200 hectares are planted with eucalyptus and acacia. Taking advantage of favorable weather, the commune government has increased propaganda and mobilized people to continue to implement and complete the forest planting target in June 2025.
Ms. An Thi Thuan, Trung Luong Village, Trang Luong Commune (Dong Trieu City), said: My family has 12 hectares of production forest affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi). After the storm passed, my family quickly cleaned up and prepared the site and seedlings. Taking advantage of the rainy days, my family replanted the entire area with eucalyptus and acacia varieties. Now the planting is complete, we just need to focus on fertilizing and waiting for the harvest.
In 2025, the city plans to plant about 1,000 hectares of forests of all kinds. Up to now, about 600 hectares have been planted, reaching nearly 60% of the plan. With the initiative of units, localities, and forest owners, from mobilizing social resources, the city has deployed support for over 35,000 seedlings including pine and lat trees for a number of households in mountainous villages and communes with difficult circumstances in the area.
Ms. Hoang Thi Xinh, Deputy Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (Dong Trieu City) said: At this time, the weather is quite favorable for afforestation. The city has issued documents directing forest owners and households with forest areas to proactively plant forests and is expected to complete by June 30, 2025.
Completing the plan to plant and restore damaged forest areas after storm No. 3 will contribute to the goal of increasing the city's forest coverage to 44.5%. Along with that, the city has also directed units and localities to continue implementing forest care and protection work to ensure sustainable forestry development.
