On the morning of December 26, in Hanoi, General Director of Vietnam Railway Corporation Hoang Gia Khanh had a meeting and worked with leaders of CRRC Tu Duong Locomotive Company (CRRC Tu Duong), CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Company (CRRC Zhuzhou) and Tam Nguyen Hekou Trading Company , China.
The content of the working session was about the possibility of promoting cooperation between the parties to develop diesel locomotives that reduce emissions, save fuel, and have high impact resistance, while supporting Vietnam Railways to increase localization capacity, gradually promoting the development of the railway industry.
Sharing China's experience, CRRC Chairman Siyang Chen Zhixin said that China has a roadmap to meet the emission reduction requirements of the 26th United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP 26), in which priority is given to eliminating diesel locomotives that do not meet current emission standards, and retaining modern diesel locomotives that meet the standards. CRRC Chairman Siyang also suggested that in the current situation, Vietnam can divide by region: Large cities and central areas should prioritize the use of green energy, while rural mountainous areas with low population density and lower pollution levels can continue to use diesel locomotives.
Regarding the promotion of localization of railway machinery and materials, Mr. Tran said that China has a lot of experience and is willing to share and cooperate with Vietnam. However, he noted that it is necessary to carefully assess the market demand for these products, avoiding the situation of large investment capital but low production output, due to the market capacity not being large enough.
At the end of the meeting, the leaders of both sides agreed to continue exchanges and work at the professional and technical level, to promote deeper and more substantive cooperation.
Since 2001, CRRC Tu Duong has cooperated to supply many locomotives to Vietnam Railway Corporation. Tu Duong's products are evaluated as suitable and effective for the practical situation of Vietnam's railway.
