On the morning of March 28, in Hanoi , Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien met with relevant units on the progress of the Lao Cai-Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line project.
The project is a national key project, playing a particularly important role in transmitting power from hydropower plants in the Northwest region to the national power system, contributing to ensuring energy security and promoting socio -economic development.
On March 16, 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued the groundbreaking order for the project, marking an important step in the implementation of this large-scale project.
According to a report from Vietnam Electricity (EVN), as of the end of March 2025, site clearance work has had positive changes. Specifically, out of a total of 468 pole locations, 442 locations have been handed over, reaching 94.44%. Road opening work for construction has reached 19.7%, while the foundation excavation and casting part has been completed at 14.1%.
Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized: “This is an urgent project, of great significance to the national system. Therefore, close coordination between ministries, branches and localities is needed to ensure progress and put the project into operation soon.”
Despite achieving positive results, the project still encountered some difficulties, especially in compensation and site clearance.
Currently, Yen Bai province still has 11 column foundation locations that have not been handed over, Phu Tho has 13 locations and Vinh Phuc has 2 locations. In addition, compensation and resettlement support work is still being implemented by localities, in which Lao Cai province has approved the plan and proceeded to pay money to people, while the remaining provinces are in the stage of counting and making plans.
The investor EVN is working closely with local authorities to resolve problems and at the same time requesting contractors to carry out construction of many items in parallel to shorten the implementation time. Up to now, the three provinces of Lao Cai, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc have completed the approval of land records for the entire column foundation and corridor of the line, while Yen Bai province is also rushing to complete this project.
In the context of increasing electricity demand, especially in the hot season, the early completion of this project is of great significance to ensuring power supply for production and daily life. With the determination of leaders at all levels, the support of localities and the efforts of the investor, the Lao Cai-Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line project is getting closer to the goal of completing on schedule before September 2025.
