The purpose of these activities is to evaluate the effectiveness and update the progress of the BLF project in Dak Lak, and to launch a new initiative to support female farmers in this area. 50 years of cooperation and global vision from Germany

During the field trip to Cu M'gar district, Consul General Wallat had the opportunity to meet and discuss directly with local farmers and partners in the agricultural value chain, helping her better understand the challenges caused by climate change, issues in the supply chain and how the BLF Project is providing comprehensive solutions to support the coffee and durian industries here.

This activity is even more meaningful as it takes place during the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Federal Republic of Germany. Ms. Wallat affirmed: “This is not only a political relationship, but also covers many other areas, including agriculture. I am very happy to see that German businesses are making positive contributions to support Vietnam in promoting its strengths to achieve common goals of sustainable development together.”

Farmer H'Nhung Mlo (Ea H'Ding commune, Cu M'gar district) said that his family currently has 5 sao of coffee grown using the drop-top method (multi-stem coffee) since July 2024, intercropping durian. This is a new farming method, with many advantages over the traditional planting method because it saves the effort of making shoots and has higher productivity. At the same time, the family is supported by the project with an energy-saving irrigation system, which helps save a lot of investment costs, as well as better respond to the increasingly complex situation of climate change.

At the durian garden of Mr. Nguyen Van Su (Cu Sue commune, Cu M'gar district), with more than 1 hectare participating in the BLF Project since October 2024. Mr. Su said: "Thanks to being equipped with in-depth, systematic knowledge and applying advanced science and technology in care, in less than a year, the garden has been healthier than before and has produced more fruit than the control garden. This year in particular, many gardeners were seriously affected by unusual weather changes, but the project garden was almost unaffected. I hope that the project will be expanded so that many farmers can benefit, produce safe products that meet export standards, creating sustainability and prosperity for farmers."

According to Mr. Kg Krishnamurthy, Director of Crop Science Division (Bayer Vietnam), to promote the sustainable development of the Vietnamese coffee industry and support the export promotion, Bayer and its partners are implementing many activities and programs in coordination with farmers. These activities include training and technology transfer to improve soil quality, manage pesticide residues, manage plant health in the context of climate change and improve productivity and quality of harvested coffee. BLF does not only provide solutions, but also aims to change farmers' awareness of using pesticides properly, safely and responsibly. The ultimate goal is to create a sustainable and prosperous coffee production ecosystem and community.

One of the special highlights in the series of activities is the launching event of the "Sustainable Coffee Ambassadors Club" initiative implemented by Bayer, Dak Lak Agricultural Extension Center and Simexco Dak Lak Company.

Mr. Maximilian Rummert, General Director of Bayer Vietnam shared: "We want to build a forum where women's needs and voices are heard. This initiative not only equips women with useful knowledge in the field of farming to improve their livelihoods and income, but also provides knowledge about health care to improve the quality of life for themselves and their families."

The
The "Sustainable Coffee Female Ambassadors" Club was launched at the office of the Dak Lak Provincial Agricultural Extension Center with the participation of 20 pioneering female farmers.

According to Ms. Hoang Thi Ai Lien, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, the province currently has over 214,000 hectares of coffee and is generating income for over 300,000 farming households, of which over 70% are women who are involved in agricultural production. However, women do not play a decisive role in this activity.

The Better Life Farming project - Pioneering agriculture, prosperous farmers, is a community development initiative implemented by Bayer and strategic partners such as: Dak Lak Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, Netafim Company, Yara, Simexco DakLak and the Western Highlands Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute (WASI). Launched in the first phase in 2024 in Dak Lak, BLF focuses on supporting coffee and durian farmers to transition to sustainable farming methods and regenerative agriculture. This is an extremely urgent direction in the context of Vietnam, and especially the Central Highlands region, being heavily affected by climate change, with extreme weather seriously affecting the health of crops.

Therefore, Dak Lak Agricultural Extension Center determined to join with other parties to launch the "Sustainable Coffee Ambassadors" Club with the desire to further promote the role and position of women in coffee production activities and the ultimate goal is that Dak Lak coffee is not only delicious but also a symbol of fairness, responsibility and sustainable development.

Female farmer Nguyen Thi Hung (residing in village 7, Ea Ning commune, Cu Kuin district) expects: "This initiative will bring long-term benefits, especially strengthening the important role of women in the agricultural sector. Supporting female farmers to access the necessary knowledge and resources is the key to our success in sustainable farming and improving all aspects of life."

Mr. Maximillian Rummert emphasized that Bayer's initiatives are not only aimed at improving farming productivity but also at improving the quality of life for farmers and their families. He hopes that the club's activities will be widely spread and in the future the network can be expanded, attracting the participation of many female farmers in other provinces.
