The project "Developing a district-level eye care model" was invested in by the Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF) and implemented in the three provinces of Dak Nong, Hoa Binh, and Ben Tre from the end of 2021 and will begin implementation in 2022.

The project aims to provide 827,000 people in 9 beneficiary districts with equitable access to quality eye care services at the district level, with the aim of replicating the model nationwide.
After more than 3 years of implementation, the project has increased the number of medical staff trained in ophthalmology from 10 to 78. The project has helped 64,441 people receive eye screening, 103,601 people receive communication to raise awareness of eye disease prevention. 92% of people are satisfied with the quality of eye services provided in the beneficiary areas.

In Dak Nong, three units were selected to implement the project’s eye care model activities, including Dak Glong District Health Center, Krong No District Health Center and Dak Mil District Health Center. The implementation of the project has contributed to improving and enhancing eye care services for people in the province, especially in the districts where the project is implemented.
Implementing the project, 3 doctors, 3 nurses and many staff and technicians of the health centers were trained in specialized fields and knowledge related to eye care. Hundreds of commune health workers and school health workers were trained in primary eye care, referral and consulting skills. The project invested in 3 basic ophthalmology equipment packages for 3 health centers; invested in 2 optical counters... More than 11,300 people were informed, instructed and accessed information about eye care; over 5,700 people were screened and early detected eye diseases...

At the conference, representatives of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management - Ministry of Health; Central Eye Hospital; FHF Fund; together with leaders of the Department of Health and experts, doctors, medical staff implementing the Project in the provinces of Dak Nong, Phu Yen, Ben Tre, Hoa Binh exchanged and shared experiences to help improve and enhance the quality of the model, towards a practical model when applied in the scope of the project provinces and nationwide. conference

Building on the results achieved, FHF is committed to soon launching a new phase of the project, with the goal of providing basic, comprehensive and continuous eye care services to individuals, families and communities, with special attention to vulnerable groups.
