After nearly 2 months of launching, the organizing committee of the CJ 2025 Short Film Project has just announced a list of 12 potential projects that have entered the project presentation round.
Specifically, the judging panel, including leading Vietnamese film directors and producers: directors Phan Dang Di, Charlie Nguyen, Trinh Dinh Le Minh, Tran Thanh Huy and producer Tran Thi Bich Ngoc, worked together and discussed thoroughly to select the 12 best projects that fully meet the factors of creative ideas, potential scripts, production plans and feasibility for the program.
Selected projects include: Deep Blue Days (Vu Trung Duc), Blooming Days (Bui Phuong Thao), Rattle (Le Hoang), When the Earth Stops Rotating (Tran Chi Cuong), Who Named the Mountain (Tran Huu Thanh), Nameless Girl (Nguyen Huu Uy), City Story (Nguyen Thanh Giang), Made in Vietnam (Nguyen Duy Anh), Behind The Sin (Cam Duc Hiep), Whether Sleeping or Awake (Le Van Ninh), The Dream Is a Snail (Nguyen Thien An), Confession on Earth (Lam Cong Thinh).
The jury assessed that this year's projects demonstrate diversity in subject matter, storytelling style and cinematic perspective of a new generation of directors.
From personal stories to experimental ideas that reflect many aspects of contemporary society, the projects show the potential to develop into quality short films that can compete at international film festivals.

“The jury debated a lot when making the final selection. Many projects not only demonstrated creativity in content but also showed the inner strength of a generation of young directors searching for their own voice. What is valuable is that many of you dared to exploit thorny topics in a subtle and emotional way,” said director Tran Thanh Huy, a member of the Jury.
As planned, the project presentation round will take place on August 6. This is not only an opportunity for young directors to directly present their ideas, but also a rare opportunity for them to receive valuable professional advice from leading filmmakers in Vietnam.

After the presentation round, the 5 best projects will be selected, receiving production funding support of up to 1.5 billion VND, as well as creating favorable conditions for these short films to participate in prestigious international film festivals around the world .
In addition, young directors are also supported with equipment and post-production, and participate in intensive training courses on filmmaking skills with leading film experts from the Korean Film Academy (KAFA).
Over the past 5 seasons, the CJ Short Film Project has contributed to discovering and nurturing many promising directors of Vietnamese cinema. Many young directors have developed their first feature films from short films in the competition and won major awards, such as Pham Thien An, the Caméra d'Or award for debut film at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival with Inside the Golden Cocoon; Pham Ngoc Lan with the victory for best debut film at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival with Coolie Never Cries; director Duong Dieu Linh with 2 Circolo del Cinema Verona awards for most creative film and the IWONDERFULL Grand Prize for best film within the framework of the International Film Critics' Week (Settimana Internazionale della Critica) at the 2024 Venice Film Festival with Rain on the Butterfly Wings .
