To see the scenery at Mau Son peak on the coldest day in the North, Mr. Xuan Hoang's family (residing in Ha Dong district, Hanoi ) had to move to Lang Son city since yesterday afternoon, January 23.
"It's bone-chillingly cold but the scenery is beautiful. This is the first time my family has seen ice," Mr. Hoang shared.
Ms. My Linh (33 years old) and her daughter traveled by private car nearly 380km from Tinh Gia (Thanh Hoa) to Mau Son peak to see the ice.
Ms. Linh said that the mother and daughter left Thanh Hoa at 5am this morning. It was not until 12:30pm that they arrived at Mau Son peak.
Three young men Nguyen Van Xuan, Minh Hoang, Quoc Anh (from Bac Giang) and Ms. Le Thi Xuyen (from Thai Nguyen) wrapped blankets around themselves to keep warm in Mau Son this morning.
"We brought the blankets from home. When we got here, it was so cold that we wrapped ourselves in blankets to go to the top," Van Xuan said.
Tourists fell down due to slippery roads. According to Ms. Le Thi Xuyen (living at Mau Son peak), when going to see the ice, climbing to Mau Son peak, in addition to warm clothes, tourists need to wear shoes with good grip to avoid slipping. In particular, when walking on concrete roads, tourists should not walk fast, running and jumping will be very dangerous.
The road to the top of Mau Son has many slippery sections, some tourists have fallen while moving.
Many tourists enjoy taking photos with the frost covering the treetops. Ms. My Hanh (35 years old, from Bac Giang) shared that due to traffic jams, the journey from Lang Son city to Mau Son peak (about 30km) took her more than 2 hours.
"The road is small and narrow, so it's a bit dangerous to walk on, but the icy scenery here is so beautiful, it's worth the effort to go early in the morning," said Ms. Hanh.
The motorbike was covered in ice after being left outside overnight.
At noon on January 24, frost still covered the fences, roofs, and tree branches in Mau Son. According to information from the Mau Son Meteorological Station, the temperature at the top of Mau Son at 7am this morning was -3 degrees Celsius. At noon today, according to the reporter's records, the temperature here was -2 degrees Celsius.
By 2 p.m. this afternoon, the ice on Mau Son peak began to melt slightly. Nguyen Van Loc (33 years old, living in Mau Son) said that when the ice melts, visitors will feel colder because of the high humidity and strong winds.
