Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs , Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese said that on November 23, 1959, the Central Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, now the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, was established. 45 years later, on March 26, 2004, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 36 on Overseas Vietnamese work. Overseas Vietnamese work has always received deep attention from the Party and the State.

According to Ms. Hang, our country is entering a new era, an era of rising up that requires the joint efforts and unanimity of all people in the country and Vietnamese compatriots abroad. In that context, the work of NVNONN plays an increasingly important role and requires continuing to raise awareness of the meaning and importance of this work, as well as mobilizing more participation and contribution, and more harmonious and close coordination of departments, ministries, branches, socio-political organizations and localities.

Ms. Hang informed that in the coming time, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese will continue to comprehensively and more strongly implement the work of Overseas Vietnamese. Continue to innovate and diversify the work of mobilizing overseas Vietnamese, promote the work of caring for and supporting Overseas Vietnamese, encourage and create conditions for Overseas Vietnamese to contribute to the development of the country, focus on preserving culture and honoring the Vietnamese language, strengthen information and propaganda work for Overseas Vietnamese to bring the work of Overseas Vietnamese to a new level, meeting the requirements of the country in the era of development and worthy of the expectations of the Overseas Vietnamese community.

Sharing at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Dy Nien, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, former Chairman of the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese, said that the Overseas Vietnamese community is currently very strong. The Party and State pay great attention to Overseas Vietnamese. No other country has had leaders like ours, from the General Secretary, President, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the National Assembly, who, when on business trips abroad, mention Overseas Vietnamese living there, and hope that the leaders of the host country will help. That shows the great concern of our Party and State for Overseas Vietnamese.

“The opinions of overseas Vietnamese have been reflected and in the documents, overseas Vietnamese are always mentioned as an inseparable part and a resource for building the country. Therefore, in the current context, it is very necessary to have the contribution of overseas Vietnamese in the new era, the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise, so that Vietnamese culture is maintained and the Vietnamese language is remembered forever,” said Mr. Nien.

Citing a real-life example during a business trip to Africa, he was personally surprised to meet a black girl speaking Vietnamese with a strong Saigon accent. When asked, the girl said that in her mother's family, the rule was to speak Vietnamese at home, and only Vietnamese was spoken during meals. "Therefore, to preserve the Vietnamese language, the mother plays a very important role. This is what I remember and share with the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese to find a way to arouse it, so that the Overseas Vietnamese community can stand side by side for the country" - Mr. Nien suggested.

At the workshop, Mr. Tu Thanh Hue - Head of the Overseas Vietnamese Foreign Affairs Department, Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee affirmed that over the years, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have actively coordinated and cooperated in many diverse forms, contributing significantly to building the great national unity bloc, continuing to affirm that the overseas Vietnamese community is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation, while also acting as a bridge for overseas Vietnamese to increasingly actively contribute more to the Fatherland and homeland.

Mr. Hue also said that during the two sessions of the National Assembly, the Vietnam Fatherland Front had the task of synthesizing the reports of voters' recommendations sent to the sessions. Through the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, the Vietnam Fatherland Front has gathered the opinions of overseas Vietnamese and included them in the voters' reports, regularly grasped the aspirations of the people, coordinated to resolve difficulties and problems arising to meet the legitimate aspirations of the majority of overseas Vietnamese, and supported the stabilization of their lives and development.

Attending and delivering a speech at the workshop, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son emphasized that throughout the revolutionary periods, our Party and President Ho Chi Minh have always paid special attention to the work of overseas Vietnamese. This is a very important task to build and promote the strength of the great national unity bloc, contributing to the cause of national liberation, national unification, construction and defense of the Fatherland.

Regarding the tasks in the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested continuing to promote the dissemination at all levels, sectors, localities, and mass organizations of the policies, viewpoints, mottos, and major orientations set forth in Resolution No. 36, Directive No. 45, and Conclusion No. 12 to further raise awareness and sense of responsibility of the entire political system, all people in the country, and our compatriots abroad for the work of NVNONN.

In addition, it is necessary to transform into action so that the correct policies of the Party and State on overseas Vietnamese bring specific and practical results to the country and the overseas Vietnamese community. Research, monitor, and grasp the situation of the overseas Vietnamese community to promptly advise and recommend to the Party and State to promulgate, amend, supplement, and perfect policies and regulations to facilitate overseas Vietnamese returning to work, invest, and do business.

The Deputy Prime Minister also requested to promote solutions to effectively promote overseas Vietnamese resources to contribute to the country's development. Continue to innovate and diversify foreign propaganda and information work, support overseas Vietnamese to preserve and promote national cultural identity, especially innovate and improve the effectiveness of organizing the teaching and learning of Vietnamese, promote traditions and cultural identity to young generations in the overseas Vietnamese community.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son presented the First Class Labor Medal for the second time to the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.
