On May 26, Dr. Phan Vinh Tung, Department of Surgery - Anesthesia and Resuscitation, Thong Nhat General Hospital said that the patient was admitted to the emergency room on the evening of May 25 in a state of being shot from the right lower rib through the liver and right lung.

The Emergency Department doctor held a multidisciplinary consultation with the departments of Thoracic Surgery, General Surgery, and Interventional Cardiology. The CT scan showed that the patient had liver damage, was bleeding, and had pleural effusion.

After consultation, the doctors decided to intervene in the bleeding hepatic artery. After intervention in the hepatic artery, the patient's condition stabilized, and he was taken to the operating room to remove the bullet from the body and place a pleural drain.

According to Dr. Tung, the patient suffered from multiple injuries. Fortunately, he was brought to Thong Nhat General Hospital early and received timely multidisciplinary consultation for minimal intervention, so the patient's condition improved quickly and progressed well.

Up to now, the patient is still being monitored at the Department of Surgery - Anesthesia and Resuscitation, the liver wound is no longer bleeding, and is being drained for monitoring in the next 24-48 hours. If there is no more bleeding in the liver or pleura, the doctor will re-evaluate and the patient can be discharged in the next 3-5 days.

Hepatic vascular embolization is an advanced technique used to treat cases of bleeding in organs such as the liver and kidneys. To perform this technique, hospitals must have appropriate machinery, equipment, and medical instruments, as well as a team of highly skilled doctors.

In Dong Nai, only two hospitals have been able to deploy this technique: Thong Nhat General Hospital and Dong Nai General Hospital. At Thong Nhat General Hospital, this technique has been deployed since 2024. To date, many patients have been treated with this technique, including a patient with very severe multiple injuries in a boiler explosion accident in Vinh Cuu district in May 2024.
