(NLDO) - The construction progress of the National Highway 50 expansion project connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Western provinces has been affected due to problems with the land of 4 households and 1 power station.

The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) has just reported on the implementation of the project to build and expand National Highway 50, Binh Chanh district.

According to the Traffic Department, although the People's Committee of Binh Chanh district and other departments and branches have recently handed over most of the construction sites, there are still some locations that cannot be constructed.

In particular, the National Highway 50 Parallel Section is stuck with 3 households who have not agreed to hand over the land (1 household in Gia Hoa Residential Area and 2 households in Phong Phu 4 Residential Area). In addition, this section is also stuck with Gia Hoa 3 power station which the Electricity Corporation has not agreed to dismantle, waiting for a decision to reclaim the land.

For the existing National Highway 50 expansion section, there is a problem with the land of one household under the compensation policy for the road to the Da Phuoc cemetery project.

Delay in site handover will slow down project progress.

The Traffic Department said that according to plan, the project will be completed and open to traffic in 2024, along with the parallel section of National Highway 50, and the entire project will be completed in 2025. However, up to now, it has not been completed as planned, but only a 2km section from near the Trinh Quang Nghi intersection to the existing National Highway 50 intersection has been opened to traffic.

The 4.3km section of Highway 50 parallel to Highway 50 is only put into use for 2km.

The National Highway 50 expansion project has a total investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND, starting at the end of 2022. National Highway 50 is expanded over a length of nearly 7km, from the intersection with Nguyen Van Linh Street to the border of Long An province.

The project includes more than 4km of new route parallel to the current national highway and more than 2km of expanding the existing road from 7m to 34m, with 6 lanes.

When completed, the project will increase traffic connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City, Long An and the Western provinces. The project also connects key routes such as Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway, Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, etc.
