On May 22, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) denied the information calling on businesses in the North to voluntarily reduce 30% of electricity usage.

Vietnam Electricity Group said that since the beginning of 2024, electricity supply has been well ensured, EVN has no plans and has not implemented any reduction in customers' electricity demand.

However, recently, there has been some information that "Vietnamese authorities have called on some businesses in the North to voluntarily reduce 30% of their electricity usage". EVN confirmed that this information is incorrect.

In June and the following months of 2024, EVN will update the growth in electricity demand and has developed plans and scenarios for operating the power system to ensure electricity for economic development and people's lives in all situations.

To help the group successfully complete its assigned tasks, EVN requests that customers and electricity users continue to pay attention to and coordinate in implementing the economical, safe and efficient use of electricity, especially in the period from now until the end of 2024, emphasizing the customer groups in Directive No. 20 of the Prime Minister .

Regarding this, on May 22, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien signed a telegram to the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises and EVN on continuing to resolutely, synchronously and effectively implement solutions to ensure electricity supply during peak periods in 2024 and the following years.

The dispatch stated: According to the reflection of some foreign-invested enterprises and some social networking sites, there is a phenomenon of electricity units working to ask manufacturing enterprises to voluntarily reduce electricity consumption. The Ministry of Industry and Trade believes that this information causes misunderstanding in public opinion about the electricity supply solutions that have been effectively implemented by all levels and sectors in the recent past.

The Minister of Industry and Trade requested the Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises to direct and request the Chairman of the Board of Members and the General Director of EVN to proactively and synchronously implement solutions for economical and efficient use of electricity in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister in Directive No. 20/CT-TTg dated June 8, 2023 on enhancing electricity saving in the period of 2023-2025 and the following years; guide and encourage creativity in implementing electricity saving work to achieve the highest efficiency; not to regulate or cut load, except in emergency cases in operation.

The 2-component electricity price mechanism is fairer than the 1-component electricity price . Currently, Vietnam applies a 1-component electricity price schedule, which means the electricity price is calculated based on electricity capacity. Meanwhile, many countries in the world are applying a 2-component electricity price schedule.
