The weather recorded at the summit of Fansipan at 6:00 AM on January 7th was -3 degrees Celsius.

Early in the morning of January 7th, at around 6 am, the temperature at the summit of Fansipan dropped to -3 degrees Celsius. The strong cold air caused thick frost to form, covering trees, pathways, and structures on the mountaintop in white.

The blanket of white ice covering the "roof of Indochina" shows the extreme cold of this cold spell, while also creating rare sights that attract the attention of tourists and locals alike. Many areas on the mountaintop are covered in ice and frost, making the landscape look unusual compared to normal days.

Previously, according to the cable car management, light snowfall had occurred on the summit of Fansipan since December 18th. Since then, the area has continuously experienced frost and ice. Staff say the weather in 2026 will have many similarities to years that recorded heavy snowfall, such as 2019 and 2021, when snow typically started as light snowfall, then became more frequent and covered a wide area.

While snow and ice create a special attraction for Fansipan in winter, authorities also advise locals and tourists to pay attention to staying warm, closely monitor weather developments, and ensure safety when visiting in low temperatures, slippery conditions, and limited visibility.
