A FIFA delegation visited Argentina last week. The agreement to host the U20 World Cup was signed by the Argentine Football Association, along with relevant documents from the local authorities where the matches will take place.
According to FIFA, the 2023 U20 World Cup will still take place from May 20 to June 11, 2023 as scheduled. After Argentina was awarded the hosting rights, the country's U20 team will have a place in the tournament and replace Indonesia U20 in the top seed group.
Speaking on the FIFA homepage, President Gianni Infantino said: "FIFA is delighted to announce that the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup will take place in Argentina, the home of the world champions. The tournament opens its doors to welcome the future superstars of world football.
I would like to thank the Argentine Football Federation and in particular its President Claudio Tapia, as well as the Government authorities, for their commitment to organizing this great event in such a short time.

The U-20 World Cup is a key part of FIFA's efforts to promote youth football around the world. Since its inception in 1977, the tournament has featured stars such as Diego Armando Maradona, Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba, Erling Haaland and many more. The fact that this year's tournament is being held in a country that loves football is a great inspiration for the stars of tomorrow."
The draw for the 2023 U20 World Cup will take place on April 21 at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. The 24 teams will be divided into six groups. The top two teams in each group and the four best third-placed teams will advance.
Previously, Indonesia was chosen as the host of the 2021 U20 World Cup. However, in the context of the widespread Covid-19 pandemic, FIFA decided to cancel this tournament and continue to award the right to host the next tournament in 2023 to Indonesia. However, recently, the highest authority of world football stripped Indonesia of the hosting right after the Bali provincial government did not allow U20 Israel to attend the draw.
