Tan Son Nhat Terminal 3 and Long Thanh runway will be completed 2-3 months early

The investor and contractors aim to complete the Long Thanh airport runway and Tan Son Nhat T3 terminal before April 30, 2025, 2-3 months ahead of schedule.

The content was presented at the signing ceremony of the emulation competition to exceed the construction targets of contractors at the Long Thanh airport construction site on the morning of March 14. The move was made after the Prime Minister 's direction to put this project 6 months ahead of schedule.

Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan said that the early exploitation of Long Thanh airport will help develop the economy of the country and the key economic region of the South. At the same time, the new airport will also help share and overcome the overload situation of Tan Son Nhat airport.

"Contractor leaders need to create a competitive atmosphere and be present at the construction site to direct. Supervision consultants must closely monitor and urge the unit to implement the project's plan and technical specifications...", Mr. Tuan said, adding that in addition to the runway and apron items, by April 30, 2025, the main important items of the airport terminal package will also be completed, to soon bring the entire project to the finish line ahead of schedule.

The Long Thanh airport runway project is 4,000 m long and 45 m wide, and started on August 31, 2023. To date, the ground and sand foundations have been basically completed. The crushed stone layer has been completed by over 70% and the concrete and cement layers are being deployed to complete the runway and calibration flight...

According to the Vietnam Airlines Corporation (ACV), all construction items have been strictly inspected and accepted according to the project's technical instructions. At the runway construction site, there are 350 machines and vehicles along with 1,500 engineers and workers working in "3 shifts".

Long Thanh Airport has a capacity of 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo per year. The total investment capital of the project is about 336,630 billion VND (about 16 billion USD). Of which, phase 1 will build runways, terminals and auxiliary items with a capacity of 25 million passengers/year, expected to be completed in 2026.

On the same day, at the launching ceremony of the competition to complete Tan Son Nhat T3 terminal, Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV - the investor) also set a target of operating the project on April 30 next year, two months ahead of schedule. This is a project with an investment of nearly VND11,000 billion, serving the largest domestic passenger volume in the country with 20 million people, raising the total operating capacity at Tan Son Nhat airport to 50 million passengers per year, along with the two existing terminals T1 and T2.

Mr. Le Khac Hong, Head of the T3 Terminal Construction Project Management Board, said that after 6 months of construction, the most important package, which is the construction and installation of terminal equipment, has completed more than 81% of the rough construction volume. At the construction site, the joint venture contractor mobilized more than 400 vehicles, equipment and nearly 2,000 engineers and workers to simultaneously deploy items to ensure the plan.

Terminal T3 consists of three main categories: passenger terminal, multi-storey car park combined with non-aviation services and overpass system. The terminal has one basement, four upper floors, built on an area of ​​112,500 m2. The terminal is designed into two separate departure and arrival sections, with 90 check-in counters, 20 automatic bagdrop counters, 42 check-in kiosks, 27 aircraft gates, etc. The non-aviation service car park alone consists of two basements, four upper floors built on an area of ​​130,000 m2.

To connect this station, the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project, more than 4 km long, is being implemented by Ho Chi Minh City outside with an investment of more than 4,800 billion VND. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. In addition to connecting T3 station, it will break the monopoly of Truong Son road to and from the airport, helping to reduce congestion in the area.
