Nearly 17,500 candidates take the aptitude test to compete for a place in a teacher training college

On the morning of May 17, tens of thousands of candidates from all over the provinces and cities flocked to Hanoi to take the competency assessment test (SPT) organized by Hanoi National University of Education, competing for places in pedagogical schools, and some other schools using the results of this test.

Present at the exam site of the University of Commerce early in the morning, Do Thi Lan Anh (Bac Ninh) said she took the exam with the desire to be admitted to the primaryeducation major of Hanoi Pedagogical University.

"Although I took the combination of math, physics, and chemistry, to be considered for primary education, I chose to take three subjects: math, literature, and English because the major only considers this combination," Lan Anh said.

Nguyen Thuy Linh, a 12th grader at Dong Da High School (Hanoi), said she took the exam to apply for the Literature Pedagogy major. According to Linh, last year the standard score for this major was too high (29.3 points), so she took a separate exam to increase her chances of passing and reduce the pressure for the graduation exam.

Waiting for candidates outside the exam area, Ms. Tran Thi Lieu Hien ( Phu Tho ) said that she and her child took a shared bus from 6am to get to Hanoi on time for her child to attend the exam.

"My child wants to take the history teacher exam, this is also my family's wish. In the past, I also wanted to become a teacher but could not do it. Now my child wants to become a teacher in the mountains, teaching poor students, I support him," said Ms. Hien.

The SPT competency assessment exam will take place on May 17 and 18. Candidates will take elective exams including math, literature, English, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography and use the results to apply for university admission.

The content of the tests corresponds to the content of high school subjects and exams. The test combines multiple-choice and essay questions with appropriate score ratios according to the structure of each test; assessing the level of understanding of core knowledge and the ability to reason, analyze, evaluate, problem solve and be creative.

This year, the exam had nearly 17,500 candidates participating, an increase of about 6,000 candidates compared to last year. Of which, more than 13,000 candidates registered for math, more than 11,000 registered for literature, and more than 9,000 registered for English. The remaining subjects ranged from 4,000 to 5,000 candidates registered.

The exam will be held at 20 locations in Hanoi, Nghe An, Binh Dinh, and Da Nang for the convenience of candidates. The results are expected to be announced before June 15.

26 schools use SPT assessment test results

As of May 17, 26 universities have recognized and will use the results of the SPT exam organized by the school to consider admission to regular universities in 2025.

Accordingly, 9 schools have used the results of the SPT competency assessment exam since last year, and will continue to use it this year, including Hanoi National University of Education, Hanoi National University of Education 2, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Thai Nguyen University of Education, Hue University of Education, Da Nang University of Education, Quy Nhon University, Vinh University and Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

17 universities used the SPT exam results for the first time for admission, including schools training in technology and construction, including the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, Hanoi University of Construction, Academy of Educational Management, Capital University, Vietnam Women's Academy...
