On the evening of May 17, Quang Nam Club lost to Da Nang at Tam Ky Stadium. The goal came from a mistake by goalkeeper Nguyen Van Cong in the 44th minute. Van Cong cleared the ball incorrectly, allowing Phan Van Long to score the only goal.

The defeat left Quang Nam Club only 2 points ahead of Da Nang (22 vs 20) while the 2024 - 2025 V-League has 3 more rounds to end. The relegation race is becoming fierce.

"I take responsibility to the leaders and fans of Quang Nam football. After the match, I texted the club's leaders to resign.

Quang Nam Club needs innovation. The new coach will create new vitality. That is good for the players, but at this time it is too stagnant, I will step back. I am waiting for the leaders' opinions and their decisions," said coach Van Sy Son.

The coach from Nghe An said he felt sorry for the players after a long journey.

"The team is waiting for something new, maybe that will make them feel more comfortable and dedicated," he said.

Talking about goalkeeper Nguyen Van Cong's mistake that helped Da Nang Club win, coach Van Sy Son said "Van Cong was subjective when he saw that there was only Van Long".

"Today, we had one more player the whole match. Quang Nam pressed the field for 90 minutes, but one mistake and we paid the price. Anyway, today the players played with good spirit," he said.

Quang Nam Club will host Hong Linh Ha Tinh, Thep Xanh Nam Dinh and visit Hoang Anh Gia Lai in the last 3 rounds of V-League 2024 - 2025.
