Several states, including the battleground states of North Carolina and Georgia, set records on the first day of early voting last week, according to Reuters. “Georgia is at a record level. Honestly, every state is at a record level. We’re doing very well and hopefully we can restore this country,” former President Donald Trump said at an event in Zebulon, Georgia, on October 23. Meanwhile, Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris is also racing to win over undecided voters with a live television interview in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. She hopes to win over these swing voters and that will help turn the tide in a tight race. The surge in early voting comes as Vice President Harris and former President Trump are still locked in a tight race in seven key battleground states. After Zebulon, former President Trump traveled to Duluth, Georgia, for a campaign rally with former Fox News star Tucker Carlson and former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Harris tried and failed to get Trump to agree to a second presidential debate on CNN after she was widely expected to win the first and only presidential debate between the two candidates in September on ABC News.
Pennsylvania and Georgia are among the seven battleground states that will determine who wins the presidential election. Both candidates are spending much of the remainder of the campaign in these states. In the latest Reuters/Ipsos national poll, Vice President Harris leads former President Trump by 3 points (46% to 43%). The Democratic candidate's lead is unchanged from last week's poll, which gave Harris 45% to the Republican's 42%. The poll also found that immigration, the economy and threats to democracy are top of mind for potential voters. Former President Trump leads on immigration and the economy by 48% to 35% and 46% to 38%, respectively. The incumbent vice president leads on threats to democracy as well as health care and abortion, with 42% to 35%. The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted Oct. 15-21 among 4,129 likely voters, including 3,481 registered voters, with a margin of error of 2%. Over the weekend, Trump edged out Harris in The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s election forecast for the first time, with the model showing the Republican candidate has a 52% chance of winning compared to Harris’s 48%. The Hill/Decision Desk HQ polling index also shows the Democratic candidate leading by 1.2 points, 49% to 47.8%, nationally.
