Airline tickets are high but there is no supply.
According to a survey by VOV.VN reporters on the ticket sales websites of Vietnamese airlines on May 25 (nearly a week before the April 30 holiday), many flights to tourist destinations were sold out.
A week before the holiday, flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to tourist hotspots were almost fully booked. In fact, more than ten days ago, the booking rate on some routes reached over 85%, many flights were sold out. Typically, the routes Hanoi - Hue, Hanoi - Tuy Hoa, Hanoi - Chu Lai, Hanoi - Dong Hoi, Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao, Ho Chi Minh City - Tuy Hoa...
On the "golden route" Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Airlines has the lowest ticket price of 3.74 million VND/way and some flights are sold out, only night flights remain. If customers choose a special economy ticket, the price goes up to 5.36 million VND.
Meanwhile, direct tickets for the Hanoi-Phu Quoc route on April 29 of Vietnam Airlines, both economy and business class, are sold out, with only premium economy class tickets available for up to 5.2 million VND.
Vietjet operates 4 flights but all tickets for sale are sold out. For Vietjet Air, tickets from 10:15 to 20:25 are sold out, other times the price is from 3.8-4.6 million VND. Bamboo Airways has a price of nearly 4 million VND but there is only one seat left.
For the Hanoi-Da Nang route, Vietnam Airlines has sold out 4/6 flights, the remaining flights are priced at 2.5 million VND/ticket but the number of seats left is also very limited. Out of 13 Vietjet flights, there is only one flight with tickets left, the price is also up to 2.4 million VND/ticket.
Hanoi-Nha Trang route, 2/3 flights of Vietnam Airlines are sold out, the remaining flight has a price of up to 3.74 million VND. Vietjet has a price of 3.66 million VND.
On the return flight on May 4, Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi, Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways have prices of 3.74 million VND. Vietjet prices range from 2.9-3.5 million VND.
For the Da Nang-Hanoi route, Vietnam Airlines has a price of nearly 2.5 million VND; Bamboo Airways is out of tickets and if you want to fly, you have to transit through Ho Chi Minh City and then connect to Hanoi and the price is also up to 5.4 million VND.
Vietjet operates 14 flights but only 3 flights are still selling tickets, the lowest price is 2.4 million VND and the highest is up to 3.8 million VND.
For the Cam Ranh-Hanoi flight, Vietjet Air has sold out all tickets, Bamboo Airways has no flights on this day. If Vietnam Airlines passengers have to accept an additional stop in Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City and continue to Hanoi, the price ranges from 4.8 to 7.1 million VND.
A representative of Vietnam Airlines said that during the April 30-May 1 holiday, Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASCO) will provide more than 610,000 seats, equivalent to more than 3,200 domestic flights, an increase of 35% and 29% respectively compared to the same period last year.
According to the forecast of Noi Bai International Airport, during the April 30 - May 1 holiday this year, the number of flights and passengers passing through the airport is expected to increase both domestically and internationally.
Of which, the peak day is expected to serve 108,000 passengers (including 44,000 international passengers and 64,000 domestic passengers), up 22% compared to usual, up 25% compared to the same period; 602 flights (including 277 international flights, 325 domestic flights), up 12% compared to usual, up 18% compared to the same period.
The leader of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam added that during this holiday, airlines are expected to operate 7,536 domestic flights (685 flights/day), an increase of 24% compared to before the increase in flights. The number of seats provided is about 1.5 million seats, an increase of 20%.
To meet the increased travel demand during major holidays, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has requested airlines to promptly add flights on high-demand routes and increase operations during off-peak hours and at night.
Train and bus tickets are less "hot"
Checking ticket prices on online train ticket sales sites, prices have increased slightly, from 2-4% compared to the same period in 2024, depending on the train and the distance the passenger travels. However, there are still plenty of tickets and many empty seats.
Train route Hanoi-Dong Hoi, seat ticket fluctuates around 590,000 VND, sleeper ticket fluctuates around 1 million VND.
Train route Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang, seat ticket fluctuates around 500,000 VND, sleeper ticket fluctuates around 900,000 VND. In addition, there are also long-distance tickets, customers can buy for short-distance travel but at a higher price due to long-distance surcharge.
A representative of the Railway Transport Joint Stock Company said that during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, the company will run more passenger trains on various routes. Passengers will gather to buy train tickets for April 29-30 at Hanoi and Saigon stations to travel to tourist destinations.
"On the return trip, passengers mainly take the train on May 3-4 to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Tickets are still available on other days during the holiday. If demand increases, the railway will continue to organize more trains and add more cars.
In particular, on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route, in addition to 5 pairs of Thong Nhat trains departing daily from Hanoi station, Saigon station will run 2 more trains departing from Hanoi station to Saigon station," said a representative of the Railway Transport Joint Stock Company.
According to the representative of the Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, in addition to the daily trains, there are 4 more trips between Saigon Station - Da Nang Station; 12 trips between Saigon Station - Quy Nhon Station; 6 trips between Saigon Station - Nha Trang Station; 4 trips between Saigon Station - Phan Thiet Station; 2 trips between Hanoi - Da Nang; 4 trips between Hanoi - Dong Hoi.
On the Hanoi - Hai Phong route, in addition to the 4 daily train pairs, there are more than 10 additional trains. The Hanoi - Lao Cai, Da Lat - Trai Mat, Hue - Da Nang routes maintain daily train operations.

Passengers are buying train tickets for April 29 and 30 at Hanoi and Saigon stations to travel to tourist destinations. On the return journey, passengers mainly take trains on May 3 and 4 to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Tickets are still available for other days during the holiday. If demand increases, the railway will continue to run more trains and add more carriages.
Meanwhile, at bus stations in Hanoi, Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company said that in addition to increasing the number of buses, it will also strictly handle acts of collecting illegal fares and oppressing customers during the April 30 - May 1 holiday.
Mr. Pham Manh Hung, Director of Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company, said that the unit has proposed a plan to increase 625 buses for the stations. Specifically, Giap Bat Bus Station will increase 262 buses; Gia Lam Bus Station will increase 83 buses and My Dinh Bus Station will increase 280 buses. The number of buses will be allocated by day and by route depending on the increase in passenger flow.
"The highest number of passengers is expected during peak days on the afternoon of April 29-30 at Giap Bat and My Dinh bus stations to be about 20,000-22,000 passengers/day (an increase of about 300-350% compared to normal days), Gia Lam bus station will receive about 8,000 passengers/day (an increase of about 300% compared to normal days", Mr. Hung informed.
A representative of Nuoc Ngam Bus Station said that the number of passengers is expected to increase by 125-140% compared to normal days, with a large concentration on April 29-30 going to the provinces of Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh.
During the peak holiday season of April 30 - May 1, transport companies recommend that passengers proactively arrange their time to get a ticket price that suits their budget, and plan to arrive early to avoid overloading and not bring prohibited items such as flammable and explosive substances, weapons, etc.
