Inter Milan star shares sad news at FIFA Club World Cup after incident in Iran

(Dan Tri) - Striker Mehdi Taremi is stuck in Iran amid escalating military tensions between Israel and Iran. That prevents him from joining Inter Milan to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Mehdi Taremi returned home to collect the Iran Footballer of the Year award and also participated in two 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Qatar and North Korea. According to the plan, he will fly to Los Angeles to join Inter Milan, preparing for the opening match against Monterrey of Mexico on June 18 (Vietnam time).

However, after Israel launched a series of airstrikes against Tehran (including military and nuclear facilities), all commercial flights in Iran were suspended indefinitely. This makes it impossible for Taremi to leave the country at the moment to go to the United States to attend the FIFA Club World Cup with Inter.

According to Sky Italia, Inter's board of directors has been in constant contact with Taremi and relevant authorities to find a way to bring him to the US in time. However, due to the complicated situation, it is almost impossible to bring Taremi out of Iran.

This is a big loss for Inter as Taremi is a player with the potential to make a difference. Last season, the Iranian striker scored 3 goals in 43 appearances for the Milan team. In which, he participated in the Champions League final against PSG.

Inter have parted ways with coach Simone Inzaghi and appointed coach Christian Chivu ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. In the tournament in the US, the Nerazzurri will be in the same group as Monterrey, Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan) and River Plate (Argentina). They will play their opening match against Monterrey at 8am on June 18.
