"Absolutely cinematic", "walking in the hearts of the people", "Heroic Fatherland", "Historical April days captured in this photo series" are compliments for the photo series capturing the moments of the parade in Ho Chi Minh City.
Although April 30 has passed, the "viral" speed of the photo series is still very fast. It is known that the author of these photos is Bui Quoc Hoang (22 years old, Ho Chi Minh City), currently a final year student majoring in social work, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-HCM).

"Going into the hearts of the people" and the unexpected spread
Born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, Hoang soon became involved in the activities of the Youth Union, where he was nurtured with a love for the nation's traditions and history. Therefore, when he heard that the city would organize a parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, Hoang came up with the idea of taking a special photo series.
"I spent time flying a flycam, capturing beautiful moments of the city. When I knew the exact parade schedule, I looked at the camera angles and shooting methods of previous photographers to learn from their experiences and find my own camera angle" - Hoang shared.
Hoang chose Le Loi Street, where he found a high-rise coffee shop with an ideal location, where he could record the entire parade "walking in the hearts of the people". Hoang was present at the coffee shop from the afternoon of April 29 to reserve a seat and prepare the equipment, ready for the work session on the morning of April 30.

Hoang requested that the photo series should show fresh colors and the modernity of the country. However, the photo series must retain the "quality" of soldiers, the traditional military uniform color, and most importantly, must show the closeness and friendliness of the parade to the people.
Hoang's careful investment in ideas, camera angles and enthusiasm was well rewarded when the photo series quickly spread strongly on social networks, receiving countless compliments from the community.
"It took me 15 hours to wait and only 1 hour to "shoot" the photos. I didn't think the photo series would receive so many compliments. It was a bit tiring but I'm very happy because my efforts were well received by many people. From then on, it motivated me even more to pursue my dream of becoming a photojournalist" - Hoang expressed.
"Falling in love" with journalism
Hoang's chance to become a photographer began with a meaningful gift from his parents after his secondary school entrance exam. Hoang practiced photography, trying his hand at taking pictures at activities of the Youth Union.
"Good news travels fast", Hoang is recommended by many people to take more photos. Hoang has become an indispensable photographer at events such as: Children's Festival of 3 countries Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia, Excellent Team Leader Competition, 11th National Congress of Vietnam Student Association - 2023, National Congress of Vietnam Youth Union, State funeral of late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in 2024...

Hoang's dream was to pass the university entrance exam for journalism, but he didn't have enough points so he "changed direction" to study social work at the school. During that time, Hoang never gave up on his dream. Although he studied in a different field, when he had the opportunity, he still collaborated with newspapers to write articles, get to know reporters to learn more experience. In his free time, Hoang also took photos for services to earn extra money to cover his living expenses.
"When taking service photos, you have to focus on technique and photo quality; when taking press photos, you focus on information and moments. From daily experiences, I combine these two photography styles to create my own style" - Hoang said.

Having the chance to work with Hoang during the recent military parade, photojournalist Nguyet Nhi, currently working at Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper, had many compliments for Hoang.
"Hoang has good experience in photography, although he is a student, he has mastered the equipment. During the process of working, Hoang shared with me about the images he took, which were steady and creative angles. In the future, if you have passion and are trained in journalism, I think you can absolutely become a real reporter" - photojournalist Nguyet Nhi commented.
