When people think of crabs, they usually think of sea crabs. But in the mangrove forests of Ca Mau , crabs also thrive in shrimp ponds. Here, crabs reproduce naturally or are carried by the tides into shrimp ponds, developing in their natural environment. Crabs living in ponds are not very large but have a lot of meat, are firm and delicious. There are many species of crabs: red crabs, three-spotted crabs, green crabs, etc., but the most delicious and popular is still the green crab.
To keep the crabs fresh and alive, oxygen must be running 24/7 during the buying, selling, and transportation process.

Square crabs are smaller than regular sea crabs, but their meat is firm, sweet, and delicious.
The price of crab fluctuates seasonally and daily. On average, top-quality crabs (5-7 crabs/kg) cost 150,000-200,000 VND/kg; second-quality crabs (8-10 crabs/kg) cost 100,000-120,000 VND/kg; and mixed crabs cost 50,000-60,000 VND/kg.
There are two tidal cycles each month that release the crabs from the ponds. Along with shrimp and fish, the locals also harvest crabs from the ponds. Traders come directly to buy them at prices ranging from 60,000 to 200,000 VND/kg, depending on the type.
