Domestic coffee price list updated on the morning of May 20, 2025 |
According to experts, the main reason for the sharp drop in coffee prices from May 2025 is because the forecast for Brazil's coffee output is more positive than initially estimated.
In addition, the weakening of the Brazilian Real against the US dollar also prompted Brazilian coffee producers to increase sales. In addition, additional supply along with increased inventories on the floor were the main reasons for the sharp decline in coffee prices.
The coffee market is still monitoring the developments of trade negotiations between the US and other countries, along with the upcoming policies of the US Federal Reserve (Fed). These moves will determine the ups and downs of the USD, thereby leading the commodity markets, including coffee.
Global financial markets are currently experiencing volatility due to escalating trade tensions between the US and China. The ongoing disagreements and negotiations in April have caused uncertainty not only in global finance but also in the production supply chains of the two major economies. The 90-day tariff truce has fueled speculation, increasing investor participation in financial markets and the US dollar.
However, in the short term, this could put additional pressure on the freight transport system between the two countries, worsening congestion on import and export routes as businesses rush to deliver goods before the next tariff deadline.
According to preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, in the first 4 months of this year, our country exported nearly 666 thousand tons of coffee, earning 3.8 billion USD, down 9.4% in volume but up 51.8% in value over the same period in 2024.
Notably, the average coffee export price in the first four months of the year reached 5,700 USD/ton, a sharp increase of 67.6% compared to the same period last year. This is the reason why the value of coffee exports increased sharply despite the decrease in quantity.
