Rubber price today May 12: All increased at opening

On the Shanghai Futures Exchange, the May rubber contract rose 0.2% to 14,505 yuan/ton. On Japan's OSE, the price also edged up 0.2% to 308.2 yen/kg.

In addition to the positive price trend, the rubber market is being affected by trade information related to the tire manufacturing industry. Specifically, the US Department of Commerce has proposed imposing anti-subsidy duties of 125% on car tires of Jiangsu General Science Company (China) because this company did not cooperate during the investigation. This is only a preliminary conclusion, the final decision will be made after receiving feedback.

Meanwhile, many major tire makers are adjusting their strategies. Yokohama raised its U.S. tire prices on May 1 by as much as 10 percent due to rising raw material and finished-product costs. The company is also considering acquiring the Euro Tire plant in Romania to expand its heavy-duty tire production in Europe.

From a vehicle market perspective, Q1/2025 data shows that the market share of battery electric vehicles in the EU is still growing, but slower than expected, while hybrids dominate. The share of gasoline and diesel vehicles continues to decline sharply.

On the Japanese side, Bridgestone also announced that it will increase the prices of its commercial tires from June to September due to cost pressures. Meanwhile, JFE Steel and two Japanese chemical companies are collaborating on a project to produce methanol from steel waste gas, expected to start in 2026, indicating that the industry is working towards a more sustainable future.

Domestic rubber price today May 12

In the domestic market, rubber prices have slightly adjusted in the past week. Since May 5, the purchase price of latex has decreased by about 18.5 VND per TSC, ranging from 397 to 401 VND/TSC depending on the type.

Mixed latex also decreased by about 20 VND, currently commonly in the range of 359 to 409 VND/DRC.

However, some large enterprises still maintain the purchase price. Phu Rieng Rubber Company still buys mixed latex at 400 VND/DRC and liquid latex at 440 VND/TSC.

Ba Ria Rubber Company applies a latex purchase price of 462 VND/TSC degree/kg for latex with TSC degree from 25 to under 30.

DRC latex (35–44%) is purchased at 13,600 VND/kg, while raw latex costs between 16,900 and 18,200 VND/kg.
