The late coach Eriksson left behind a large debt after his death.

Eriksson died of pancreatic cancer last year at the age of 76. However, he was left with debts of more than £8m, including £7m in unpaid UK taxes. Despite a 42-year coaching career, he was still in debt.

His family were forced to auction off 349 items of memorabilia, including the Armani suit he wore at the 2006 World Cup (with a handwritten team sheet still in the pocket), the BBC Manager of the Year trophy in 2001, and the Premier League Manager of the Month award when he was in charge of Man City.

Even a lunch invitation from the Queen and an Ivory Coast shirt signed by striker Didier Drogba are up for sale.

The auction was a success and attracted great interest from fans in England, Italy and Portugal. However, the amount raised was only £140,000, which was still a drop in the bucket compared to the huge debt of the late Swedish coach.

A lunch invitation from the late Queen sold for £300, while the Armani suit Sven wore at the 2006 World Cup with a handwritten team note still in the pocket sold for £3,000.

"The auction clearly reflects the affection that people all over the world have for Sven. We are very pleased with the results of the two auctions and may hold a third auction with his furniture," the Swedish auction house said.

The Eriksson family are also selling their seven-bedroom lakeside home in Sweden for around £1.8m to help pay off their remaining debts.

From 2001 to 2006, Eriksson led the so-called "golden generation" of England, including David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard. He helped the "Three Lions" reach the quarter-finals three times in a row at major tournaments (World Cup 2002 and 2006, Euro 2004).

The 76-year-old coach also led many big clubs in Europe such as Roma, Benfica, Man City and Leicester City. During the 2018-2019 period, he was the head coach of the Philippines team participating in the AFF Cup and Asian Cup.
