Gas price today May 18: Domestic retail gas price is stable...

Domestic retail gas prices in May continued to remain stable for the second consecutive month following the trend of world gas prices.

World market

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices in Asia have recorded a significant decline due to weak gas demand. Mr. Masanori Odaka - senior expert at Rystad Energy commented that LNG prices have fallen mainly due to weak downstream gas demand. However, supply disruptions from Australia and Brunei have also helped to restrain the price decline. According to Rystad Energy, spot LNG prices in Asia for May delivery are currently around $12.5/MMBtu - down nearly 9% compared to April prices, but still 29% higher than the same period last year.

Since the beginning of the year, gas prices have decreased twice and remained unchanged three times.

Similarly, in the US, gas demand for liquefaction plants remained stable, with the Calcasieu Pass plant just officially entering commercial operation, contributing to the decline in global LNG prices. In Europe, LNG prices continued to decline, with the June gas contract price at the TTF gas hub (Netherlands) falling 2.4% to $11.4/MMBtu. In Asia, the June LNG futures contract also fell 2% compared to last week, to $11.4/MMBtu as of April 15.

Meanwhile, the US dollar index has fallen below 100 for the first time since July 2023, indicating that the euro and other currencies are strengthening against the US dollar. According to Masanori Odaka of Rystad Energy, exchange rate developments could send gas prices in Europe in different directions, depending on the payment currency and the region’s gas storage policy.

Domestic market

Specifically, the retail price of Petrolimex gas cylinders (including VAT) in May 2025 in the Hanoi market is 457,400 VND/12 kg household cylinder; 1,829,600 VND/48 kg industrial cylinder, unchanged compared to the selling price in April 2025.

For the Eastern and Western regions of the South, the Southern Gas Trading Joint Stock Company (Gas South) announced that the retail price in May will remain the same as in April, applicable to the company's gas cylinder brands including: Gas Dau Khi, VT-Gas, A Gas and JP Gas. Accordingly, the gas price to consumers is 475,400 VND/12kg cylinder and 1,784,111 VND/45kg cylinder (including VAT).

A representative of Petrolimex Gas Corporation said that although the average world gas price contract for May 2025 was at 600 USD/ton, down 10 USD/ton compared to April 2025, due to fluctuations in the USD exchange rate, Petrolimex Gas Corporation did not make any price adjustments.
