The price of live pigs today (July 23) continued its downward trend in many localities across the country. The common decrease was 1,000 VND/kg, causing the price of live pigs in some places to fall to the lowest level of 60,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, the highest price on the market is currently recorded in Tay Ninh at 66,000 VND/kg.

Analysts say this price drop may stem from a slight increase in domestic supply, along with pork consumption at traditional markets not yet increasing as expected despite it being the peak tourist season.

On July 23, the price of live pigs nationwide continued to decline, especially in the Northern and Central provinces. According to information from farmers and traders, many localities have simultaneously reduced prices by about 1,000 VND/kg, showing a cooling of the market in the context of stable supply but no significant increase in consumption demand.

In the Northern region, more than a dozen provinces and cities have reduced the price of live pigs, bringing the common price down to around 61,000 - 63,000 VND/kg. For example, Lao Cai, Lai Chau and Dien Bien all reduced it to 61,000 VND/kg. In Hanoi , Hai Phong and Bac Ninh, the price is currently fluctuating around 63,000 VND/kg. Provinces such as Son La, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Thanh Hoa also reduced it by 1,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, some localities such as Hung Yen, Lang Son, Phu Tho and Quang Ninh still maintain the price from 62,000 to 63,000 VND/kg, with no new fluctuations.

Pig price today, July 23, in many places in the Central Highlands - Central region decreased to 61,000 VND/kg

In the Central region, the price of live pigs also decreased from the North to the South Central region. Provinces such as Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Khanh Hoa and Gia Lai all decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, bringing the common price to around 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg.

In contrast, the two provinces of Dak Lak and Lam Dong still kept the price of live pigs unchanged, at 61,000 and 64,000 VND/kg respectively, with no change in this adjustment.

Pig price today, July 23, in the South decreased slightly

Previously, the price of live pigs in the South remained stable, but today the first signs of a price decrease have appeared. Many provinces in the Western region have reduced prices by VND1,000/kg compared to the previous day, showing that the downward trend is spreading nationwide.

The price of live pigs in Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho both dropped to 64,000 VND/kg. Vinh Long also recorded a price drop to 63,000 VND/kg, while Ca Mau – once the locality with the highest price in the region – has now dropped to 65,000 VND/kg.

Although some provinces such as Dong Nai (VND 64,000/kg), Tay Ninh (VND 66,000/kg), Dong Thap and An Giang (both VND 64,000/kg) still maintain the same price, the price gap between the provinces is gradually narrowing. This shows that the southern pig market is entering a period of adjustment after a long period of maintaining high prices.

African swine fever broke out violently in Quang Tri, thousands of pigs were destroyed

African swine fever prevention in Quang Tri is facing many obstacles due to a shortage of human resources, limited budget and low compliance awareness among some farmers.

According to information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province, from July 18 to 20, 2025, localities in the province had to destroy 1,322 pigs infected with African swine fever.

As of July 20, the disease has spread to 631 households, spread across 91 villages in 16 communes such as Kim Phu, Tan Thanh, Dong Le, Tan Gianh, Quang Trach, Phong Nha, Tuyen Lam, Tuyen Son, Trung Thuan, Hoa Trach, Con Tien, Minh Hoa, Dan Hoa, Tuyen Hoa, Nam Gianh and Nam Ba Don. Authorities have destroyed a total of 4,626 pigs, weighing nearly 273 tons. Currently, only Kim Phu commune has gone 21 days without recording any new outbreaks, while the whole province still has 15 outbreaks that have not been completely controlled.

Quang Trach commune suffered the most damage, with nearly 2,000 pigs in 234 households infected, the total weight of pigs that had to be destroyed was up to more than 113 tons, accounting for nearly 42% of the total number of pigs destroyed in the whole province.

Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Trach Commune, said that the locality is facing great difficulties in human resources, funding and equipment for epidemic prevention. Because Quang Trach is adjacent to many other communes, the risk of the epidemic spreading is still very high.
