On July 23, the live hog market across the country continued to record a downward trend, especially in the Northern and Central provinces. According to surveys from farms and traders, many localities have simultaneously adjusted the price down by VND 1,000/kg, reflecting a clear cooling trend in the context of stable supply and not strong increase in purchasing power.
In the North, at least 14 provinces and cities have adjusted prices down to 61,000 - 63,000 VND/kg. Specifically: Lao Cai, Lai Chau and Dien Bien are all at 61,000 VND/kg after a decrease of 1,000 VND. In Hanoi , Hai Phong and Bac Ninh, prices fluctuate around 63,000 VND/kg. Other localities such as Son La, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa... also decreased by 1,000 VND/kg.
Some provinces such as Hung Yen , Lang Son, Phu Tho and Quang Ninh have not recorded any changes, keeping the price at 62,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.
In the Central region, the decrease was also spread evenly from the North to the South Central region. Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang City , Quang Ngai, Khanh Hoa and Gia Lai all decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, commonly trading at 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, Dak Lak and Lam Dong are the two localities that maintain the old price, respectively 61,000 and 64,000 VND/kg.
If in the previous days, the South was the region that maintained stable prices, today it began to record the first decrease. A series of provinces in the West adjusted down 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, reflecting the spread of the downward trend across the country.
Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho have both dropped to 64,000 VND/kg. In Vinh Long, the price of live pigs has dropped to 63,000 VND/kg, while Ca Mau – which used to have the highest price in the region – has also dropped to 65,000 VND/kg.
Although some provinces still maintain the same price such as Dong Nai (64,000), Tay Ninh (66,000), Dong Thap and An Giang (both 64,000), the gap with neighboring provinces is narrowing rapidly. This shows that the market is entering a period of adjustment after a long period of keeping prices high.
Analysts say this price drop may stem from a slight increase in domestic supply, along with pork consumption at traditional markets not increasing as expected despite it being the peak tourist season.
